Stowage items.
Atmosphere.

Seems that the later stowage racks are doubling as slat armour for the rear of the turret.
Could explain the more robust construction of the later versions.
Not seeing any messy unnecessary stowage items across the IDF Merk fleet.
More room inside the vehicle and better supply support I assume.
