Hi Painless. I too have been reading about your health problems. And wish you a speedy recovery, and you are able resume your build soon.

Gentlemen!
John, Meter Rat, Thank you for noting my issues. Working with what I can do to continue this Build, I'm diagnosing the suspension and hull issue on the old King Tiger.
Thank you both and on to more Fun...

Painless

Re: [WINTER] Porsche Turret King Tiger w\Commander
Good Evening all,
I took the Old Porsche Turret King Tiger apart last night and was pleasantly surprised. The receiver is a Crystal unit, yes but the MFU is more modern than I thought. Still an old unit but not the open board with everything hardwired to it that I had thought. Today, I repaired most of the running gear issues ( broken pin and misaligned track and idlers ) The Lower had detweaked itself just by being off the block and having it's weight sitting on the tracks again after years on a pedestal. I lubricated the white metal gears and put a little good quality smoke fluid in the Smoker to test and took the Lower outside to run it for a bit. I ended up reseating a couple more pins and cussing a bit when I had put the track back on in the wrong groove on one of the rear idlers once. The last run was Gold with this Beast chewing up rocks and weeds and doing one track skid turns in rough terrain with ease. I believe that a set of metal wheels to match the tracks, sprockets and idlers along with some sprocket bushings for the lower hull and new metal suspension arms by Heng Long ( not Asiatam as is currently installed) will see the running gear finished. The old HL smoker is toast. Pumps good but the heating element is dead. They make much better smokers today so not a hard item to replace. Still on the fence about a set of steel gears. The white metal ones still look new. Noisy as Hel tho' I had forgotten that ;o) More to come,
regards,
Painless

Painless, based on my recent experienced unearthing (or out-from-under-the-other-boxes-ing) a crystal-communicating HengLong Sherman, you have this just right. Since I hardly ever run my AFVs outdoors, my M4's VVSS and electronics are still working bone stock. What is more, some years ago (10? 12? more?) I added some stowage and weathered it a bit so it doesn't look too bad. Keep us (or, put selfishly, me) informed, as I have a--what, Shermanic?--interest in how it goes with your venerable Königstiger. I hope you are getting a kick out of a kind of your Phoenix-like Königstiger.

Herr Doc,
Good Morning! It scares Luke, the younger Greyhound when I fire it up. I think it is that metallic clattering that they built into the sound file. On the fence about getting new steel gears for it. The original white metal gearboxes work fine right now but as I learned with the Crackerbox Palace. They wear out fast with outdoor use on any heavy tank.

Painless

Re: [WINTER] Porsche Turret King Tiger w\Commander
Good Afternoon,
Not much going on Build-wise. I have been carefully removing the tools and cables and fittings from the tank. Today I did get in the 'w\Commander' part of the Build. A Big resin improvement over the original Figure from back in the day.

Painless I have been following your builds since the days when you carried me through my initial PZ4 build and dammit they get ever better
So many questions, How are those greyhounds? Will you be leaving the electronics on the latest Tiger 2 alone and will you be Zimmeriting both the older and the new Tigers? As to your health, I married my lady in 1973 and she came with a clean bill of health then through what was obviously my fault she fell to pieces, First blue light with a burst appendix then her thyroid followed far to closely by an operation to fuse two bones in her spine, And bugger but she still swims almost every day and has a smile that tears me apart,
I tried to keep up with a rebuilt leg and 2 stents and 2 cataract operations (Thanks for the heads up on which lens to go for
) I recently was sent to the Bowel Cancer screening programme after a blood test that bothered my doctor, 3 months on and clear, no bowel or stomach cancer but pills for life for iron deficient anemia, Isn't getting old fun
,
Never tried a Tiger 2 although sitting in the workshop is a Tiger 1 with a HL 7.0 board that I must get on with after the Haya Centurion and the HL Abrams and the-----------------.
Get well soon please old friend
Shaun.

Good Morning, my Friend,
Luke and Luna have grown into themselves quite well. Luna knows that she is the 3yr old Princess of the Household, entitled to a little bit of whatever her Papas are having ( as long as it's not bad for her Doggy Constitution ) Luke is 1 yr old and still curious about everything, (except loud Panzers) He is huge and has grown into Jacks pawprints so well. A Giant in every way. Now, to the Tiger IIs, The new King Tiger runs and sounds so Good! using the 7.0 board that it will definitely keep using that Set Up for now. If I feel the need for a receiver and use on the Flysky Controller, I can do so. It will receive a detail job and paint to match the one planned for the old Pre Production turrreted King Tiger. No Zimmerit on it, Too late in the War for this Beast for that. Look for lots of Dunkelgelb and Rottbraun. The Porsche KT will get the Zimmerit treatment and a set of metal road wheels and suspension arms. The ones fitted currently ( Asiatam metal arms ) are a tiny bit too long and the effect is cumulative, causing binding in some spots when the suspension is flexed. The same sort of Detail and Paint Job for it as well. The electronics work great for the year that it was built. On the fence about using them as is. I will replace the non functioning Smoker and already have a better speaker in stock to use if I decide to employ a newer one. Jarndice, everything works, movement-wise, so I feel odd about picking it apart electronically as it is a picture window into early Heng Long. ( Even the BB Cannon works as it should ) You and your Wife have certainly had your share of Medical Misadventure. The part about her back heartens my mood since that is one of my major worries,(winding up in a chair the rest of my days) Keep an eye out for any niggles because at our age, it could be almost anything. As for getting better, I am moving at the pace that the Insurance Company and the Neurosurgeon have set. Before the Surgery, it will be a series of Shots to kill the massive infection that I have somehow managed to get around my Lumbar Spinal area. Sounds like 'Fun'. Take care and thank you for looking in on this late Build. ( and Me! )
regards,
Painless

If I recall correctly, dogs first domesticated because they began to hang around the cave for scraps of food. (I suppose warning noise was the return benefit.) Certainly the dogs have not forgotten about the food and have further mutated to perfect that "oh, poor hungry me" look. As to die Königstiger: I mentioned that the crystal-vintage Sherman works well, so it will likely be an "artefact." Ditto my ditzy PanTiger with the goofy ability to record a sequence of movements. I have plenty of other tanks, so those can stay vintage and become most desirable relics when I am beyond the relic stage.

Good Morning,
Feeling good today so I clambered up into the Closet in the Tank Room looking for spares and kit details that would work for the King Tiger(s) I found a working Tarr smoker and some useful detail parts as well as magnets for the upper and lower hull mounts. Coming back to reality world, I sat and did some researching in Forgebear, Tank Modelbau, Toucan Hobbies and Ebay. The rest of what I need is on the way now and once this all arrives, I'll have no Hobby based Excuses not to get on with this dual Build. The only thing that I could not locate were some vinyl Lower Hull bushings for HL King Tiger gearbox arms to help with all the metal running gear these tanks will run with now. I need a couple of sets and will keep looking.

Painless
