After remembering to pick up some sheet brass in Pueblo last weekend, I finally had a couple of hours to work on the rear fender reinforcements I had in mind. This is the last of the rear armor detailing minus some cast texturing for the exhausts. Detail paint to follow.

Your build just continues to get better & better, Painless. I never thought about reinforcing the fenders, but recognize that it's a weak point for a runner. Are you going to also beef up the hinge itself?

I did a hinge update based on the early work I did on the Porsche KT many years ago. The hinge mount points were sanded on the bottom to allow for upward swing ( in case something came along the top of the track run and smacked the back of the fender ). I then drilled to allow a plastic brace to run through both tabs of the mount point to keep any movement of the tabs even. ( No jamming at an angle ) The plastic brace is slightly flexible to allow for give and prevent the tabs from being broken off. This was the best I could come up with on short notice using original parts ( which were nicely detailed on the top side anyway ;o) I scoured everywhere for scale brass piano hinges, all the usual suspects sites. Aside from Aber or Voyager, I had no luck. I don't think those manufacturers kits would be strong enough to prevent the fenders being taken off during rough running since this is a very! heavy model. I just looked closer at the pictures, I get the idea of toughening up the mud flaps now.
Having never run a KT with them fitted I can see how they would be vulnerable to damage .

That’s definitely going to be a tank that can take a beating and keep going! Very solid engineering and love the Colorado flora.

Lots of rain in the mountains around us this year. The valley floor has sprung to life. This model mimics it's real life counterpart in scale size and weight. It will be fun to drive but some care will need to be taken. ;o) The Spouse will be up in Pueblo this afternoon so I will have a quiet hour or two to put into the build.
