Good Morning,
Beautiful work on the exhausts. Certainly beats the old 'paint em' rust red and leave em' be' approach. ;o)
regards,
Painless

Thanks guys, that was a different approach and really easy to follow. Previously I did it like Mr. Painless mentioned, slap on some reddish brown and some pigments. One thing to improve for the future could be to add a textured pigment to some of the rusted areas.

Ok, on to the next phase...
Dirt!
Started with a custom texture paint, AK terrain past colored with various acrylic paints to achieve a very dark desaturated brown with a hint of green. Only to the lower hull at first.
Then went for a pigment mix to use. Basically left to right is the composition from most to least.
Applied over Ammo o Mif earth effects enamel paint, additionally fixed with VMS enamel fixer and in areas washed out with Abtl 502 matt effect Thinners. Washout with Thinners results in even more effects and shades, I particularly like the Ochre, that when it breaks up looks like clumps of clay

.

Now waiting for the Valejo Russian Earth Splatter effects product to finish this up.
Then tried myself o the exaggerated exhaust dirt. Started with covering the area with the AK pencil dark earth followed by AK engine oil and some Vallejo smoke Pigments and some Ammo of MIG Track wash. After that used the AK pencils Dark Earth and Streaking Dirt on the Exhaust area and engine door and fenders (fantastic for this tank as it is an olive brown, used that on the Exhausts to tone some vibrant green down a bit).
The pencils were in my paint bosx for some months now, they really work well. Washed on and reashaped they wash out and show various tones from one pencil. Would say they are real easy to control and are a good start for adding dirt.

Used them to shade the barrel cleaner tube. Have to have a look for some more colors
Also added some from the Rainmarks pencil here. Ah and some pigments around the turret. The Fixer ist still drying.
