Is this turret modelled from the Tamiya 1/35 kit?

Regrettably not, Tim has taken it from one of the tank games (I think) so I am finding that the turret is not exactly matching my scaling from the 1/35 kit, hence my issues with it, but it's still better than not having a turret, in fact it's pretty good really apart from the scaling issues.

Don’t forget, as previously mentioned the Tamiya 1/35th turret isn’t very accurate so perhaps a blessing.

Funnily enough I was reading up on inaccurate print time estimates today, and apparently all slicers have the same problem. The reason is that the slicer estimates the amount of filament it will use and then does a simple calculation of extruding that much filament at so much per second. What it does not take into account are all of the printhead moves that it does in between printing, the slower print speeds when doing infill, the slow down when it reaches an edge, etc etc. Hence the bigger and more complex the print, the greater the extension to the estimated print time.

I always wondered why some prints took way longer than estimated, it is really frustrating when I think it will be finished before I go to bed and that I can switch it off, and then find there is still 30%/1-2 hours to go??

I kind of like it, it looks a lot like the standard Heng Long ABS colour. I feel like it adds a little authenticity and a certain je ne sais quoi, personally. ;)

It's certainly hard to miss, I don't think the camera quite shows the luminous qualities of the prints but hey, it's pretty good filament and very reasonably priced (£25 for 1.5kg).

Here's the turret roof. This is the product of about 35 hours design work

The scad is in the downloads section as a txt file under Centurion Turret Roof. It needs to be printed at .1mm layer thickness if not finer

Some work done on the turret front

here's what the real thing looks like naked

and here's my rendition of it

Some milliput work was necessary to the front due to over enthusiasm of the dremmell operator when cutting away the incorrect parts of the printed turret.

here's the design so far for the barrel, pivot, and turret front, the mantlet is still to do

The pivot is designed for servo recoil, it just needs the bits from tankbear..

ps forgot to mention, the barrel will be strengthened internally by a 4mm brass tube enabling muzzle flash
