I have the same issue with my SU-152, the aluminium barrel weighs nearly 200 grams! I've attached a spring to the recoil mechanism to try and counteract the weight, now the gun is nearly balanced when the elevation servo is disconnected. I figured it'd put less strain on the entire system than adding more weight, but only time will tell.

A spring? Well, that is another good idea.
