I always use a matt sealer. Used for sealing paintings and the like. Will find a link to the product asap

A Satin finish would be very appropriate for a clean tank... The matt Surface usually occurs during dusting and weathering... So if you layer your scale models like this you end up with a realistic build up of layers as well.

I've just been having another go at dirtying it up. As an indication of how far it is out of my comfort zone at present, I did one part and when I looked at it immediately thought "That does not look very neat."

After a few seconds, it dawned on me - dirty vehicles do not look neat and tidy.

Brought a smile to my face.

What do you use for sealing the paint, guys? I only had bad experiences with """"""""" matt""""""""""" varnishes. Im using airbrush now.

A few years ago a bought a big can of mat picture varnish from a craft store to see if it would be a cheaper alternative to Dullcote.

- Micador Picture Varnish
It still left things with a bit of that 'wet' look but it seems to have some sort of solvent in it that does a great job of blending in decals and forming them over rough surfaces.

- Hooben decal on my T-55

- Tamiya decal on my PzIV

- Another Tamiya decal over zimmerit
Now I use it as a layer to tie everything together before a final hit of dullcote to take away the gloss.

Lovely paint work on your tanks! I see the combination of the two works excellent

I use the same stuff, mine is very matt, and also works on dirt to secure it in place, and on tracks to help the paint & pigment stay put.
