Been deprived of time lately with the boy getting into trials for state rep rugby and open home commitments, so no appreciable progress.
Seems im having a "Sitzkreig" of my own !
Got the extra aerial tube and the right side rear convoy light removed, this afternoon was perfect 25 degrees and clear blue sky.
Its decieving how much plastic the tube is made up of, and just how careful you need to be to avoid scalloping out the side armour. Got it close enough and will re-dress the vent plate covers with the hobby knife to regain seperation.
Took the fleeting moment to enjoy the alfresco with a Jack Daniels & the air grinder 'oh the serenity'
Missed out on a Jagdtiger today on ebay Australia, put in a bid of AUD$130, and had to leave for the trials sesion. Got home & checked . It went for AUD$270 so I was well off. It was fully dressed & actually looked really good, but ya cant win them all eh.

The plastic flying is to be expected, but its such a lot of debris for such a small feature. I lost half a glas of JD from plastic particulate ingress contamination
Ive got wire conduits to run to the turret launchers, track tow cable mounts to fit(not looking forward to that one) and barrel cleaning section clamps to come up with.
The subject picture is leading me down many different paths, but I will stay the course & get this one as close to the pic as I can.
Seems the Tiger is in season now eh..............If many more of us in here get on with one of these they wil make the bloody cover of Vogue !!!!!

Hermann old friend the closest I have ever got to a German army GREY is HUMBROL's 27 SEA GREY, it needs a good stir if you are using a brush and DO NOT THIN IT. Hope that helps, ps when we were short of funds in the service we would share a tin of TIGER beer using straws, it worked but gave you a hell of a hangover next day, so probably best to stay with Mr Daniels sipping juice. take care. shaun

Ive got the German grey(to dark) and the light grey(to light) to blend. I also have the Sea Grey(Tamiya), will be doing a test out on the battery cover for effect and depending on the result, will let you all know what the best brew was.
My subjct Tiger picture, according to all the research, was a survivor of Kursk, which now has me in several minds as to IF this machine would have gone through the greatest summer season in AFV combat history GREY.
Waiting until the next winter to recieve the white coat as in the picture.
Its either the material indicating its surviving Kursk is out(strong sources), or the picture is not allowing any more traditional summer cam colour to show, but its got me thinking.
I will say that getting out the flat white paint with a brush over grey is going to hurt a lot less than pulling off a spot on cam job, only to then bung on the white................
The 505th S.AbT were less enthusiastic with the German camo paint at this time than other units, but the more I look , the more im not so sure.
I have had the 'Tiger-hangover' once , and thats too many !!.........ole john D and me(Jack is the name for those that dont know him so well) go back a while & I dont think I could conjour up the patience to cope with the self imposed demands of this hobby without his assistance

I will admit to a bit of coagulation of the creative juices, but im getting back on the bike now & will get on with the mission.
Besides, I have the other 2 projects to do(the imported Winterketten), AND that spectre of a Sherman to do for her on the back of those

If its 505 abt, winter 1943, its highly likely it will be all over dunkelgelb with rottbraun patches with a whitewash over the top. Depending on the exact date it - its when they switched to the new unit markings/tactical numbers - the tactical numbers will be white outlines painted in either exactly in the centre of the turret or on the forward section and about 1/3rd of its height and the charging bull is white on the left hull front. Or it will be the charging knight on the front section of the turret and tactical numbers on a yellow mount. To throw some confusion - 505 received Tigers originally destined for North Africa, so had 14 delivered just after Citadel with a factory applied tropical scheme (RAL 8020 and 7027 scheme).

Yip, youre spot on.
Which adds to my conundrum.
I would like to think that the units issued vehicles having been redeployed to Belgium before going East would have been painted with some priority (being the best of the German industrial capabilities) and this picture almost seems the base is way to dark. Could it be that the Desert sand tone was just excessively light to over do with the standard cam scheme, and they used a darker grey to cover.? the german early war grey from all accounts was a blue-grey and very dark in many pictures. Time in field would have lightened the tone, and with dust etc the hue will have changed, but the image of '100' in this case does seem to be a grey rather than any form of 'gelb' from what I can tell.
Tiger-Im-Focus does elude to the many tones of paint and cam schemes on Tiger units leading up to Kursk, but no absolutes on '100'
Ive poured over the unit vehicle replacement dates & numbers and the grey doesfit, still, with the time lines from manufacture to field deployment..............but im struggling with an elite war machine arriving into what was already known to be a huge decider in the Eastern T.O. ,in plain old grey, getting away with its shirt, and going into the next winter with a simple application of whitewash.
Tiger '312' is a fairly famously pictured vehicle of the same unit, and the apparent standard numbering on the barrel shroud in small sizes cannot be seen in the subject picture.
Could it be a Tunisian Tiger, returned to Europe from africa undeployed, or at least from the factory hastilly painted Grey once orders changed, sent to Belgium, entrained to the East in readiness for Kursk (the arrival dates are pretty much get off the train & fight on) survive, and see in the first winter with the expedient bucket of wash & a brush ??
