I have just acquired a recent HL model equipped with a TK-7.0 card. and I was pleasantly surprised by the evolution and the number of functions directly accessible from this remote control, which looks like a toy.
Has anyone looked closely in the communication protocol between TK-7.0/7.1 and the remote control ?
Are you talking about an adaptor gizmo that would allow the use of a hobby grade transmitter with a HL 7.0/7.1 control board in the tank?
I remember seeing such a device from an Australian rc company that let you do that with the old RX boards, 27mhz only.

There's nothing like that that's been developed for the new HL boards that I've seen out there.

Yes, before I published my question, I had done some research, but to no avail.
So I will continue to work on these integrated circuits that equip the radio controls and the TK-7.0 and TK-7.1 boards.
For once the reference of these circuits has not been erased : these are 2.4GHz complete low cost transceivers , reference XN297LBW, datasheet available.
If I get some results I will come back to talk about it here.

I think people have accepted most of the faults of the HL system as the driving characteristics of the tanks have become much better even with the low cost transmitters. The slow speed control is greatly improved. If I were to improve something about the system, it would be the sound sets personally.

Yeah if you could use your own receiver/transmitter and upload your own sound set, or at least have more to chose from than the four they have, that would really bump the TK series up quite a bit.

Cartho--If you could develop a good interface to allow something like a Flysky FS-i6 to be used with the 7.0/7.1 boards at a reasonable price, the world...or at least part of it...would beat a path to your door!

About the sound, i have dismantled the loudspeaker plastic box very, very low cost !
The first think to try is using a larger, better quality loud speaker in a decent box.

I will try .... but I'm aware that it should take some effort to identify each stream sent to the TK-7.x.
It's a very good exercise for my old brain !
The two XN297 talk to each other using a SPI bus, fortunately in one direction, only.
However, this represents a few hundred bytes per second, which will have to be decomposed and associated with each command.

Shmoly Hokes! I would love to be able to control a HengLong 7.0 with my Flysky FS-i6! But good luck writing instructions accessible to my level of inexperience. Nonetheless: please do keep us informed.

I don't have much experience decoding protocols, but I think I was at the same point as you, trying to reverse it. I have a Flysky TH9x transmitter with OpenTx and a multiprotocol module. I haven't passed the theoretical part yet, but my idea was to use the XN297L dump feature of the module as a starting point:

I've never done anything like this before, reverse engineering protocols, but I work as a software engineer and maybe I can help
. I also like to tinker with Arduino in my free time.
