I guess the deeper recesses are a bit on the dark side. Especially around the visor protection. As a rule of thumb, the pinwash is intended to add depth around details. In the end it is up to you how harsh it should be. In my humble view you could do a bit less in deep recesses, not to blacken them, and add a tiny bit to rivets and the hinges.
Edit: I see the visor covers are set in deeper already having shadow built in ;). For the wash in itself, it doesn't need to cover, thin it down so the base paint is not completely gone, thus it blends in easier.

Thanks for that. The recesses around the visor protection I can do nothing about. The visors open and the shadow is all natural - I did nothing to them at all. I will have another go at the rivets and hinges. I will see if I can lighten up some of the other dark bits.

That is a great recommendation. You might also look into this
phpBB [video]
that is also very complete well worth watching. It is not too time consuming when watching at 1.5x speed and I am not even a native speaker. You guys might try 2x.

Thanks to both for the video links. I will watch them both before I do any more.

Up to now I always used acrylic varnish, even on enamel wash. The only reaction I had was when using acrylic spray paint with alkyd sprays.

Paint, seal, weather/wash....................seal again if required.
I had done the same thing- wash over raw paint, and it didnt affect the finish, but sealing the raw paint certainly does allow better wash effects.
No reason you cant seal it now as is and add more wash as necessary in places.
You can seal over the lower surfaces and go from there, if you are worried about ruining anything.
That way you can get the practical exposure and cover things up with pigment etc if you are not happy, or wipe excess off the sealed surface if too much.

Just make sure to wash or whipe off before sealing ;). Also don't be shy to use several layers. As long as they are thin, it won't affect your details. Even 5-7 airbrushed , washed, filtered, layers don't seem to affect the details.

It's had its coat of stain varnish. I realise it's only a temporary state, but it looks really odd to me, with that sheen. I will have another go at the pin wash, and if I'm feeling really adventurous, I'll try some streaking grime.

Streaking grime is an excellent product IMHO and it's very easy to work with and correct if neededImage
