Re: Comet A34 Scratch build
The magnets was something I am thinking about, I used to have some flexible magnetic strips, if I can find some again they may do the job.

Re: Comet A34 Scratch build
Been doing all the fiddly bits, Thats 95% of the front done, can do some work on the turret next. I tried printing track links, which was ok, I can do that, but drilling out the pin holes and cleaning them up requires more patience than I have....
A pic of a real one is included so that you can see what I am aiming for.

Good evening,
W.W., it's really coming along. I'm amazed by the bolt head details being printed along with the main pieces. Following along.
regards,
Painless

Re: Comet A34 Scratch build
I only cottoned on to doing that with this build, mainly because I have now got both printers set up to perfection. The new one prints really fast so I just design a set of parts, load them in, and print them all in one go. Hardly any cleaning up or sanding to do, just glue them on.
I had a go at track links, I could, and might, try and do a whole set, but its the pin holes that are a pain, and the only way to do them properly is with each link in two or three parts, and that means a tedious assembly process to do a whole tank set. The ones in the pic have been designed to clip together without metal pins. but they wouldn't be any good for RC.

Awesome work Rob.
My tracks for the Universal carrier were 3d printed and it took me 12 days of sore and damaged fingers to trim, clean, and assemble them, and I really don't recommend it!

Re: Comet A34 Scratch build
Youi make hard work for yourself, lolol. I did these five links in about 40 mins?
Printed as one piece and pretty much straight off the printer....
Sorry its upside down, this was a rush bit of video.

Re: Comet A34 Scratch build
Wow Mr Wibbly
so the flex in the tracks is from them being snapped together or is this one very carefully printed set with a thin layer of material between the tracks allowing for flex between this set of tracks?

Tanks alot....

Re: Comet A34 Scratch build
Its neither, it's printed as one set of five tracklinks, with the pins printed inside of the tracks, no assembly at all, just pull the assembly off the printer and they are like you see in the video. I can't even pull the links apart??

Re: Comet A34 Scratch build
Hmmm... But how do you join the sets of five links together and do you have to print the tread and stick that on, or am I missing something? With the UC track the link and the tread were separate so had to be glued together and then I had to drill and link with dressmaking pins which obviously you don't have to do except to link the sets of five links together......
