The Spitfire won in the BOB because of fuel and not so much anything else. ( I will get killed for that comment )
lol @ FreakyDude ..
BoB was lost to the German as they left our raidar up. They didn't know just how important it was. 8|

Then Allow me to start one, The BOB was lost because Hitler and Goring reacted to the British daylight bombing attack of Berlin August 25th,1940. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/ti ... britai.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Goring made much of the fact no British Bomb would fall on Germany, The British command knew they could entice Hitler and Goring to change tactics away from the R.A.F.Bases and to British cities.

This was of course not advertised by Churchill,yet the BOB was a defeat for the Germans because of this tactic,and Goring being the perfect puppet,easy to manipulate.

So lets Kill Goring and allow Adolph Galland to control the Luftwaffe, even after the BOB. Now the picture changes completely and the air war is forever a Fighter controlled Europe and a Kreigsmarine equipped with Carrier aircraft.

Now let's just say which ever battlefield you chose,the weather is heavy cloud cover and a 1000ft ceiling.Back to Tank on tank battles.

Forgot to add this side note,the JAN/FEB 2012 issue of World War II magazine has a very detailed write up in the WEAPONS MANUAL SECTION on Stalin's Armored Fist,T34/76 with and excellent and very detailed picture of this tank and it's mechanical components.

Just a thought,but my choice of fighting the T34/85 was based in part on this article.

Saxondog wrote:I recently asked a question on another thread,it is simply this...

Given the choice of 10 to 1 odds on any WWII Battlefield which tank would you chose to command??

My choice being the mid production Tiger. Against either 10-Sherman's,or 10 T34/85 and an open Eastern Front battlefield.

More firepower,more Armor,more ammunition and the advantage of 3000m armor piercing penetration.

Please give common answers, tank,battle opponent,and front.and reason for choice of tank, Let the battle begin. cheers
Something is missing in this.....the ground.....1)If you are talking the steps of russia several miles of flat ground in all directions...thats a kt, if you are talking the hedge rows of western france , thats hellcat, rolling hills of central france....well thats the panther....maybe a mountian pass in hungery....guess what? Thats the jadgtiger.

Second line of the quote"on any WWII battlefield " is intended to cover the ground, so the answer should contain the battlefield,the tank and why and the opponent.

Hope this clarifies the question somewhat? cheers Blake

I am a bit surprised you have chosen all German Armor? But on reflection and considering the other debate I understand your choice,you simply like most of us if forced to fight,want to survive and the best chance on any battlefield IN WHICH A PURELY ARMOR engagement occurs would be German Armor.

Me too, c/w an incontinence garment 8O :{

The models are fun, history is interesting to study but perhaps not always fun to make ;)

If I had to stick around, it would be the previously described Tiger I (I'd still want the incontinence garment, though :haha: )

I like german tanks for the most part, they just went down the wrong path with fwd design imo. If patton hadn't been such a suporter of the shermen, the m26 would have gotten to the war a year earler. Figure in 3-6 months they would have sorted out the drivetrain and then that 90mm gun would have made very short work on the german armor.

I recall reading that the M26 drive train issues were still present in the first year of the Korean War in 1950 and it was removed from combat after the first year, there.
