I guess I prime with either the base colour the tank will be or a matt black spray/airbrush or good old fashioned hand brush (remember them). Then give it a dark wash to prepare it for weathering. This means if and when the paint gets scraped, it just comes through as a darker colour which i find preferable.

Cant be bothered with this red oxide primer lark and did wonder why some of you guys do. This thread has answered that question.

I don't prime the plastic (although I shot my Tiger I with grey primer as teh color), but I do shoot the metal parts with zinc chromate primer, especially the aluminum hulls.

i cant say ive ever used primer on anything other than metal parts, even then not allways, i have never used an airbrush mainly 'cos i aint had one 'till recently, all my tanks are handpainted with humbrol enamels, i use humbrol because its what i know, and i like to hand paint the tanks 'cos i think it adds a little more authenticity, though thats just my opinion, as they say, different horses for different courses

i tend to prime it with a darker colour then the top coat, i dont use a special primer, but if ive used any filler i tend to give that area a few coats by hand
on second thoughts lets not go to Camelot ,it is a silly place

Hi, try the Vallejo model air paints, i've never used an airbrush before but managed to paint a panzer3 fairly easily. Red oxide primer base coat and German grey top coat ( inexpensive airbrush ). the German grey is darker than shown in the photo looks too light because of the flash,
