Judging by the postion and size of the receiver antena, I'd suspect he's using one of these as a base:
The gun elevation is controlled by a cam plate inside the turret ring - thats why the gun elevates at 45 Deg from the front of the tank (if you look closely it appear that he's holding the turret traverse motor wires directky on to battery)
they're not bad for $12 + shipping ($28 - what the...!?), 1:18 scale but still plenty of room to convert to HL electronics - altho you do have to get pretty brutal with the drive sprokets

in order to make them run on HL tracks

like mart said servos for elevation, i think that would probably be the best way, but what about a recoil, the way i would do that if possible, would be to use the recoil from a T34, crap in the T34, (its to quick) but for a AA gun i think just right. it may also be possible to make the turret using the standard turret base, that way you would not need to cut up any of the upper deck, so you could swap it back to standard if you wanted

at 300 rounds per min, you might be better off with some kind of crank driven mechanism - you won't need much recoil, but you will need it to cycle quickly.
Maybe even something solenoid driven, that would be even easier - assuming you could find some that were small enough...?

mmm not a bad idea mart, but the t34 recoil is quick, i will ask my mate, if he knows of some really small solenoids. it looks likely one is going to get built over here, i am really tempted to have a bash when i get a panzer4

I think solenoids are the way forward - 300 rounds/min = 5/sec! You could set up a metal end stop for the solenoid to act as a tigger to light the muzzle flash LED's.
Making them work would just require a bi-stable multivibrator circuit with a beefy enough power transistor to handle the current, and then you're all set!
I'll email my father and see what he uses for model railway point actuators these days, he certainly used to have some pretty compact ones that may just be small enough if you took a few liberties with the spacing of the guns (or had a single solenoid to fire them both - I'm assuming that they'd fire sequntially to mimise recoil, tho?)
Sounds easy when you're sitting on your backside day dreaming about it, eh?

Tell you what, if you can make this work and I still have a job in 6 months time, I'll go ahead and try to make the r/c attack helicopter I was contemplating the other week!

Bubbajoeex (over on the forum that shall not be mentioned) started a scratch build of the Canadian Skink A/A tank a couple of months ago.
That mounted quadruple guns and I think he was setting up some kind of cam system to simulate the recoil.
Heres some pics of the real thing.

His Skink build is truely awesome, no other way of describing it!
Of couse it does present a dilema - does he use the "light" setting on a combat system to take advantage of the rapid cycle time of his guns - or the medium setting for the armour of his Sherman/Ram base chassis...?
