Hello Frolic , personally i'd avoid the Tiger as a first tank , it does need a lot of work to be 'right' - it's more of a tinkerers tank ;D fine for those that don't mind it sitting on the workbench waiting for another mod , of which there are many ! - but it is the one with the most upgrades . It can empty your wallet very quickly .
As for the KV , I love mine , a good runner straight out of the box . The flimsy commanders hatch is easily changed for a metal one , the version to go for would be the 'Pro' one with metal gears , sprockets /idlers and tracks . Accuracy is pretty good too , aftermarket stuff is more limited but there is enough to keep you busy :D
to the bouncy room ! Yay !

Ey up Frolic.

Ironically enough - though I am a new Tamiya convert - I have picked up a few HLs this weekend as the prices allow me to go fiddling without feeling that I might be smashing Ming Dynasty China.

As Dietrich said, the Tamiya kits can be over priced. What with the exchange rate being so bad, and the MRP being so high (inside Japan, one NEVER pays that much for the kits, if you know the shops to visit), they can be off-putting.

However, I've been overwhelmed with my first look at a HL KV1. Really, really impressive for the money. The Tiger is going to be a good fixer-upper as well, as is the Stug III but, as Blimp says, you'll get most mileage out of the KV (and it never hurts to have more Ruskies among all the Krauts).

Anyway, welcome!
