Nice bit of detailing, specially like the exhaust stacks, they look so real, would appreciate the secret of that one to start with.....Glyn

Are those rusty tracks there???

Rusty tracks are a no-no on German armor you know.

The metal composition doesn't break, doesn't wear out and certainly doesn't rust.
You'll see them full of mud and detrius, but no rust.

I'd like some more information on your excellent weathering techiques too please.

MMM,

Miggers.... As I did say early on it ISN'T finished yet !.
As you can see the decals are very bright as is the cammo paint scheme, this and other paints will be " toned " down whence I get the chance
As can be seen from the pics the tank hasn't been run since I started to do the tracks as they are metal tracks most of the spray on the surface in contact with the ground will be worn off soon, but if you look at Tiger 131 at the Bovington site you can see that the tracks do rust and infact have done so where they are not in contact with the road surface, predominately along the edges and track links.

The Bovington Tiger has value for modelling and it's details are reflective of the aging process of Museum Armor. My point is this the US Army returned many German Tanks to America, then for 3 decades these AFV's sat outside and the elements did the rest.

After much debate these AFV's were moved indoors and many were then restored to a better condition. They all even after this long period of exposure were basically intact structurally.

The Quality of German Steel, the link below has many pictures of the German armor still outside.

Hi Sax.

I take your point about the elements BUT the elements you have in the USA are slightly different from what us poor old folks in the UK and even Europe have.Ie whats your temp there today ? I bet its not as cold or miserable as here thats why everthing here made of steel etc rusts :haha: :haha:

My point is RUST, the Southern united states is an agricultural based economy. We have 4 very distinctly different seasons,Today is 72 deg. for the High. Autumn has begun, two weeks ago 105deg.

The spring is very wet for two months, then very hot weather and the winters are very cold and wet. So the tanks would of been better in the WEST,dry air no rain and sunny.

But Tennessee and Kentucky are the center of the Weather cycle as far as the seasons being so defined. Of course the North would have seen these AFV's in terrible shape as their rust problem is well known do to salting the roads in Winter.

I'm agreeing with your view and your tanks realism, it is in my opinion a very good likeness of a Tiger at war.

The elements that the USA have are frightening, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Heat waves, Earthquakes, Freezing and Flooding. We have Storms ,Winds, flooding and freezes but not on the scale of the US thank god. So, I reckon rusting happens there more or less the same as here. just my two penerth/cents so to speak. :~
