I've decided to go for an early - mid '41 version , before the germans used 88's , and extra armour wasn't needed .
  • . . . So the front plate can go as well .
Image
. . . all together now , get the back bits off . . . .
Image
. . . the HL glue fairy was a bit generous in places , but a kife can be slid behind and 'walked' along . . .
Image
Yay ! Now the rest . . .
Image
I removed the periscope as well , to stop it getting hacked about
Image . . . Scrap plastic , filler , plus a thin sasauge of miliput , smoothed along where the plates meet ,( it isn't a sharp change of angle on the real thing ) . . . then onto opening the vision port . . .
  • . . . Nope , hold on , DIN DIN'S ! . . . .

Why thank you kindly young sir :D ( praise ! - don't ! it only encourages me to get worse y'know , much , much , worse . . .)
  • AHEM . Forgive me losing the plot here folks , I know it is SUPPOSED to be 'quickie mod' stuff , :{ , so of we jolly well go . . . .
    • Image
Port cut out and the back built up with scrap to give an impression of the 75mm armour plate , and another lump will be part of a hinge . . .
Image Image
. . Next on the list , some more soldered bent brass strip and wire , and a 'vision block from grey plastic , just for a change .
Image
One drivers visor . an open . . .
Image Image
. . and shut case m'lud .
I will be making a scratched headlight as well , but i need to attack my spares first to see if i can cobble something together that looks better than the horrible stock item , that means a foray into the shed 8O - so i'll come back to that later on . Now to look at the rear deck , those air vents for a start . . . .
    TTFN  B .

. . . Of course , if you fancy doing an early ( 1940 ) version you can remove the MG as well - just skin the front plate with a bit of thin plasticard sheet , they only had a pistol port - like the ones under the turret visor slits .
    • . . . Oh , that front lamp , testing , testing , 1 lump of plastic and some sanding -
    Image
    . . . A ' crash ' moulding , plasticard heated over a candle , then quickly pulled down over the bit . . .
    Image
    . . and a trim . . .
    Image
    - it looks like a headlight bowl to me .
    - I'll make a lens for it from clear sheet and a rim of wire , or do you think it should have a blackout shroud instead ? . . . Decisions , decisions . . . Image

    *A tiny update on the 'ol guinea pig - geddit ? ( 'Kay -Vee' = Cavey . A common dometic pet , S. American rodent . )
    . . . You know , the "cute but tasty" ones . . . .
    - Oh , never mind . . .Image
    • . . . The headlight shell , 2 mouldings , one inside the other , forms a rim and stiffens up the paper thin plastic  .
with a reflector . This is going to be 'chrome plated' how ? wait and see .
. . . the small LED turned out to be an I.R. one :problem: bother . I have some yellow ones but i'll see if there are any white ones about first , meantime i'm on the hunt for some acrylic or acetate to make the lens . . .

No clear plastic , so plasticard has to do , the lens is done , shiny eh ? . Well , it's mine and i'll polish it as much as i want . . . ;D
    Image
. . . it now lies embalmed in rubber , tomorrow i'll try my hand at clear resin . While it's setting i will be doing a few different styles of blackout covers , then onto the headlight mold it'self .
