My thoughts are , for those that are interested, if you could develop a system for ejecting spent cartridges it would look so cool only real, dyed in the wool, geeks would be that concerned the 'spent' cartridges weren't to exact scale.
Personally I love the idea. If you make it workable I'll happily pay you for the conversion on my Tiger.

Sorry for the confusion, the cases that I was given by the farmer were about >>HALF << the length of an 88mm shell case...( which is why I put that I was ready to be corrected )....your rounds sound MUCH more like a practical proposition ! Who cares if they are a couple of MM out, if you can get them for free and out of brass go for it..in fact if you can get a load I am sure that you could sell packs of 10 or 20 on the Forum....Count me in for a pack straight away

Meybe empty bolt gun cartridges , they have long cases i recall , as used by the building trade ?

I got all curious about this so went on an internet oddesy Top ones the Kwk 43 88mm from the likes of King Tiger and Jagdpanther, Bottom one is the Flak 36 and Tiger 1 I had no idea there was such a difference !
I can see that the 5.56 case might just make an acceptable subsitute for the bigger one, I mean if its popping out the back I think the cool factor would outweigh the slightly greater width ?

Crikey, that's a huge difference... The uppermost round looks far more like a "traditional bullet", which is interesting!

I've got (half of) a theoretical prototype drawn up on paper that would not only eject spent shells but eject smoking spent shells! Need to keep figuring this out

It needs a bit of work..to make it all a bit s-m-o-o-t-h-e-r and more realistic though..

Thank you for the link, JohnF! It made for fascinating reading, the chap did a really good job! I'm afraid the system I'm trying to work toward is going to look a lot less spectacular but I'm at least hopeful it might work.

The main stumbling block at the moment is the need to cut a hole in the turret and replace 'that' with a hinged hatch. I have no idea if you can buy such things as "Tiger turret-hatches"... Guess I might need to work some plasticard-magic

You can get a replacement metal hatch for the tiger. I have one fitted. After fitting it i ended up gluing in closed position as it kept opening. Not as easy as the panther as the hinge is at the base. Plastic hatch probably better to make it easier for the servo to pull the hatch up. As far as I can rember the plastic hatch is just glued in place. Good luck with this interesting project.
