Once I've raised the cash for the Elmod Eco, I'll probably go with the Promax 400's with 3:1 boxes, I'll try out 2 cell packs and 3 cells and see which I prefer (I have a fair selection of packs laying around). My initial thoughts are 11.1v with a 35c rating, which should allow the motors to make plenty of power without stressing the packs.

You will notice a considerable speed difference between the 7.4v and 11.1v batteries.
I started with a 7.2 nimh battery and scale speed was @ 20mph, went to 8.4 nimh and scale speed was @25mph.
The 11.1 Lipo scale speed jumped up to @36mph, ElMod likes voltage.

Has anyone tried running LiPo with standard HL RX18?

Just that got an ImaxB6 charger so would only need to purchase a 7.4v battery. Take on board will need to change to deans connectors and probably need to put a 15A in line fuse to protect rest of the internals.

A lipo will give you better run times as the don't drop off a cliff with there charge like the Ni-Mh..It will give you model a little more get up a go power as they have a better burst than a ni-Mh. When you get them the lipo will need bedding in time. 1st 5 charges don't take it below 50% , that way the battery will last much longer. Lipo's when charge will be around 8.2 to 8.4v(2 cell). so just watch the heat and add more cooling if needed. Have fun as they will make you tank have much more power

I run cooling fans on the RX18 boards so should be ok with heat build up.

Seen a 2cell (8.4v) 5500mAh 35C battery for £18 does that sound good/bad?

Lipo's are coming down in price now , so you can get a good deal. One thing i forgot to add was, when you charge a lipo and leave it for a week or 2. Or even longer it will not lose its charge like a Ni-Mh will. So you can put your tank away with 1/2 charge and in a weeks time use the remaining charge. Nice when you haven't got to get that charger out all the time.

So got a LiPo smart charger already, so need battery and by sounds of it a fire blanket/pouch for recharging it!

So question for LiPo uses are these battery as fragile as i've read or is it when there first came out people treated them like Ni-Cd & MiMH batteries which caused all the issues?

What kind of charging setup do people have? I read post recommending have a bucket of sand nearby!

I have used lipo's for many years now..cars planes and helis. Don't run off thinking i need the bomb sqaud lol. They are as good as gold normly. 2 things that norm take place that give them a bad name.
1... they are charge incorrectly. As you have said not as a lipo..always balance charge them.bed the new lipo's in (1st 5 to 6 charges).
2.. They have been used in a plane or heli that crashed..the lipo wasn't looked at before charging, so they swell up and then not good things take place.
You know if you have damaged the lipo in that way, as it will smell of a sweet smell. If any of the above take place put that bad lipo into a bucket of salt water that will discharge it for you.
All in all charge either in a lipo bag or an old tin..never ever in your model and you will be fine . enjoy them they are fun

I thought it be more a case of few scar stories making it sound worse.

So when I get some money available I'll get myself a battery, charge sack and some deans connectors.
