My interest is in eastern front panzers and I always thought the Porcshe turret only saw use in the west.

Apparently Abt. 503 had two Porsche turret KT's in Hungary.

The 3rd Company of sPzAbt. 503, after losing their Tiger Is in Normandy was sent to Mailly le Camp in France, east of Paris , to be refitted with the Tiger II. At Mailly le Camp they received 12 Porsche turreted Tiger IIs and 2 Henschel turreted Tiger IIs on 31 July and 2 August 1944. While at Mailly le Camp two of the Porsche turreted Tiger II experienced mechanical problems and were left behind at Mailly le Camp when the rest of the unit headed for action north of the Seine River and to the west of Paris in mid-August 1944.

The two Porsche turreted Tiger IIs were shipped back to Germany from Mailly le Camp to Paderborn, Germany being shipped on 26 August 1944 and arriving on 3 September 1944.

After 3./sPzAbt. 503 fought in the withdrawal through France to Belgium they were sent to Paderborn for refitting where the entire battalion was issued 45 Tiger IIs with the Henschel turret and the two Porsche turreted Tiger IIs that they had left behind in Mailly le Camp. From Paderborn they were sent to fight in Hungary. One Porsche turreted Tiger IIs was numbered 314 and carried the name Anneliese. It was lost in March 1945 fighting in the east in Hungary. The fate of the other Porsche turret Tiger II is unknown.

From my point of view, this gets more interesting, there are decals available for one of those two Abt. 503 Porsche turret Tiger II's

I don't know and it doesn't say in the Mato write-up, if I decide to make up that Abt 503 Tiger II, it would get an SLU, anyway. :D

I don't understand the first paragraph of that letter, Mato just announced availability of them in Canada on Sept 1, 2011.

http://matomart.com/newitem.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The version described by Mato on their site does not have the case mentioned in the Walterson info (not something I would want anyway) and Mato say's their's has metal gears.

What Mato is offering is fine with me, I was planing to do it up in Abt. 503 colours, the electronics would come out and an SLU would go in, I would use a Tactic TTX404 Radio. Personally, I don't need the case or anything else that will drive up the initial purchase cost since I am looking for a base to build on at a reasonable price.

I hope we will be able to buy what Mato is offering in Canada.

Hi Glen, I am looking for a photo of the Porsche King Tiger you mention,I've also been trying to chase down the attached photo. When I find the Picture of the Hungary KT's post in the other thread.
Porsche version King Tiger with Grossdeutschland crew
Porsche version King Tiger with Grossdeutschland crew
This photo is odd considering the uniform,cuff title and collar tabs, just another late war mystery.

You can have a look here:

I wrote a brief review of the King Tiger (mods this is a company website so may violate your policy, although it has no selling potential as yet, should it go against the rules please accept my apology in advance).

The Waltersons/Heng Long debacle is a strange one. Heng Long released a number of King Tigers a month or so and these are the ones that we (Matomart, Dave and myself) have. They are the same electronically, mechanically and moulds as each other.

The main differences is Waltersons have ordered a better paint job, box, bag and internal packaging. As to who Waltersons are, who knows? Previously to being mentioned on this forum I have never heard of them, or any of their products.

My last contact with Heng Long the lass stated they will be released in the near future but most likely after September and perhaps into next year but there is no fixed date to it yet.

Thanks for posting that.

Yes, and that may be fine for some.

However, none of these things have any value for someone like me, and I expect they just drive the price up.

I would prefer the option of buying this from Mato;

NEW Henglong 1:16 R/C S&S Kingtiger Tank Porsche Turret (Super Version)
Item NO: 23835-C
Price:CAD$169.00

(can be found on this link http://matomart.com/prodview.php?p=968" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

Disassemble it, do my own paint/finishing, install and SLU and use a Tactic TTX404 radio.

So, it sounds like Mato will not be able to get any more of these?

Rule # 5 , but I only speak for myself in saying the interest in this situation and the information provided does benefit the membership,and that is our primary focus. Glen B. has asked some questions and My first thought was for you or Dave to possibly produce new information.

I cannot speak for the entire Team,but because this information benefits members who have specifically asked about the Heng Long version and you are not posting an add to sell I have no objection this time.

In future we do have a section,specifically for vendors to post new product information and that section would be more appropriate for this type of post as your status as a vendor dictates.

Curious have you examined the Waltersons version? It can be viewed here http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... 718#p72718" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Reposted after accidental deletion.

This may be relevant information to this discussion,and the future offerings by Heng Long/Waltersons.The first link is a letter written by the current president of Heng Long. The reasons for the King Tiger availability shortage and the partnership of the two companies are outlined in this document.
http://www.waltersons.com/henglong/letter-1.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What this means for us is unknown, the views of the membership here has been available for the Heng Long/Waltersons team to review. If we continue to offer constructive suggestions perhaps we may influence the product. That really is the purpose in our relationship with these companies,fair,unedited feedback from the objective point of view by tankers,the very people they are selling their product to.

Without the need to be concerned with advertising contracts or F.O.B. pricing issues the real everyday Hobbyist has the ability to voice their point of view,directly and unedited.And perhaps the team at Heng Long/Waltersons will realize that the best value is to simply give the Hobbyist what they want, this will certainly create the product demand they need,and the quality we want.
