Re: Leopard 1A4 Full Option build
Hi Andy,
You mentioned that you used the multifunction unit from the Leopard 2 with Sherman gearboxes. Can you write out how you managed to get that to work? My understanding is that the Leopard 2 gearbox works a bit differently. One motor for driving and one for turning, as opposed to the Sherman MFU which works with two separate motors for both driving and turning.
Reason is, I have the Tamiya 1/16 Leopard 1 static kit and would like to use it with Sherman gearboxes and a Leo 2 MFU. The only other Leo 2 MFU in Leo 1 that I have read about is on a german board, but the chap had a custom machined drive axle.
Thanks!
Ernest

Re: Leopard 1A4 Full Option build
Hi
I can't remember saying that. Mine uses the original gearbox that Tamiya designed for this tank. I was told (perhaps they were jesting) that I'd bought the last one in the Tamiya stock (cost me about £60). I'm not fussed about engine sounds, I'm more keen to get the turret rotating and the gun elevating. I do have an old gearbox, but I want to keep it as a spare.

Hi Andy,
Sorry!!! %} My mistake. Late night, long work days. I meant to address the question to Eastern Front, who did mention he used the MFU from Leo2A6 a few posts up on Sat Jun 04, 2011 5:00 pm.
Hi Eastern Front,
Appreciate if you could share how you managed to get the Leo2A6 MFU working with the Sherman gearboxes, and shafts and standoffs from the original Leo1A4. I am specifically interested in how you got the T07 (Tamiya Leo2A6 MFU) to work normally with two separate gearboxes because I thought the T07 only worked with the Leo2 gearbox.

Hi Eastern Front,
I'd be interested if it's just a simple solder job of bits and bobs to get it working with Sherman gear boxes.
The German board article is at: http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.com/wb ... r=0&page=3
Unfortunately, I haven't the skill or equipment to drill and tap Leo 2 axles to work in a Leo 1 tub. No lathe, no drill press, no mill. If anybody knows where I can buy the adapter Frank on the German board used, I'd be really happy.
But I couldn't write German to save my life.
Being able to buy the adapter axles and plates would be the ideal solution for me, because then I could just use the rest of the parts from the Leo 2 Kit and go about bringing my Leo 1 static kit to a speedy life with recoil, lights etc.
