it looks a really tidy mod', well thought out, but before i converted over to elmod and 2.4ghz(you dont need an antenna) all i done was solder a piece of wire pulled out of a bit of 3core cable on to the reciever board and glued it on the sponson, up and down a couple of times, this worked fine, i had no interference problems, but if this bit of kit was out when i done that, i would of bought it instead(i'm a lazy git)

Got a question----Seems a lot of guys don't like the stock antena on their tanks----Has anyone ever tried making their own tow cable
out of braded wire, then solder a wire to a spot on the under side of it----drill a tiny hole where the tow cable will lay and pass the conecting wire to the board and use it for your antena. The length of the cable should be just right for a good antena, and it is out on the outside of the tank and should not have much interference.    ??????                              BIGMIG  ;D ;D ;D

P.S. you could most likely paint it also without affecting it's function as an antena----------- ;D

Its a good Idea Big,, but the antenna is designed to stand erect! ( YA Mezz I said erect! LOL) But seriously if you lay the antenna horizontally then you need to hold your radio horizontally for distance, not bad if you are by yourself but can be kind of dangerous with people around!

Well the reason I was wondering was the fact my M5 stuarts just use the insulated antena wire taped along the top inside of the fenderwell, they do not use any external antena at all. With this said though I have never tested them at any long range, the most being about 50 feet away. For me I have never had a reason to run one out any farther than that. But just for the heck of it I may make up a tow cable out of stranded wire and give my idea a try and see if and how it may work.I'm thinking the tiger with the way the tow cable goes around the whole top of the tank would be a good candidate for this trial.I think a lot of guys use an after market metal type cable to replace the plastic one.If I can get motivated to do this I will post the results.

I can't find the web site at the moment ( but I will ) where the users describe looping the rx antennae around the inner
hull of their tanks in a sort of sine wave pattern so they could fit external scale antennae.

Bigmig, get yourself motivated and give your idea a go!
