Well for me its the fact that nothing in the civilian world looks anything like a tank. There are civilian and military planes, wheeled vehicles, ships and boats. Yes bulldozers have tracks, but they don'y have huge guns sticking out of a turret. I grew up around aircraft, my Dad restored Spits and Mustangs (as well as other stuff) when I was young. I like the rest of you had other things that were RC, but its the close quarter detail that makes me more impressed by tank kits and the multiple amount of moving parts. But most of all its the imposing presence.

I think its just they look so good, movining slowly and with menace...

Every war film and news clip creates an expectation s they trundle along.

On a practical side - when the battery power stops - they stay where they are - they don't fall out of the sky or sink ......

Same as the others, spent a fortune on Cars, Railways, Trucks, Rock Crawlers, Helicopters etc...and then thought, hmmm ...tanks, that's got to be cheaper....???

It has to be said, a day/weekend attending a battle meet is great, especially when it's a military show and we get free entry. The tanks really come alive when there are 15-20 of them all shooting at each other with muzzles flashing, barrels recoiling, and growling engine sounds. It's simply an aspect of the hobby that none of the previous models could match.

hello Jack,so maybe you were driving past our school when all us kids used to watch the convoy go past, redcaps on motorbikes all flashing lights the noise and exhaust smoke, the cry would go out "here come the mighty antars" if we were in class teacher let us boys who were interested go and watch she knew that we would'nt work while all that noise was going on,so did you drive them thru Surrey and Middlesex back in 1968-70 Jack?me and some of the other kids would have loved your job.

Hi Von Kraftwerk i'll try again posted a reply but it did'nt work, anyway if i knew your location i could probably tell you. Normally we would leave bullford barracks onto the a303 and a34 past newbury, oxford and through bracknell and towster onto the a1m, then up to either rof leeds or vickers at newcastle, pick up new cheiftans and take them back south to either tilburydocks or marchwood docks southampton. Another run was to bovington tank ranges, handy for the museum. Then once a year the germans would come over with a boat lod of leopards, pick them up at pembroke dock and take them to castlemartin ranges, nice blokes and would swap anything with you, and yes it was the early 70s, happy days for a lad of 21, anything you want to know ask away
regards Jack.
