Very neat looking work there Blitz.
So if you don't need the film when you use shades. Can you go without the shades if you're using film ?.

Hi Nick conectors in post so is the spare case for DBU and pipe to make more have chucked a few other bits and xmas card in the package.

Yes, I have made the DBU in Tank Commanders and all I used is little pieces of IR plasitc, like you have on your TV remote control it did fine!

But on the units I make, the shades also act as a 45 degree defense! You should be able to turn your turret towards LED pointing  your enemy at

15 feet and further and not take a hit!

Blitz, thanks for the info and pic's. I'll be assebling my DBU's as removable apples at this point. I'll probably conceal them in the tank at some later date.

why do people call the DBU apples when the look more like mushrooms to me

Hi Gents,
Just got in to find a jiffy bag full of bits, sent by Pete(971wright). Blimey there must be enough bits in there to service the International Space Station. Thanks Pete, you are very generous. Your sound card is going in the post Thursday (tomorrow).
I'll wire the DBC as you suggest Pete by tapping a voltage feed from another part of the RX18. I'm no electronic engineer, but I have a passing knowledge of electronics and the bit that concerns me is. That tapping an extra voltage feed in this way will give me 2 voltage feeds to the DBC. Am I correct and if so will this  do any damage.

all this electronics does look good and it is something i must get, but all that soldering makes me s@@t myself :-[ i'm not to good at that, how do you guys do it, and make it look this good

I was a Prototype / Engineering Tech II for about 15 years!

But you can do it,,, it just takes a little practice!

There's no need to S@@t yourself with soldering. It is an aquired art and practice always makes perfect and practice is the key.
We've all got a house full of dead electronic bits. Have a go at de-soldering wires etc from your dead electrical bits. Get a feel as to how much time the soldering iron spends on a soldered joint in order to release a component or wire from a circuit board. At the same time making sure you don't burn the cicuit board or fry the flux in the solder.
Flux is an anti oxidant that turns to fluid when heated and that assures a perfect joint and is present in most of the soldering "wire" that we use. Always go for a high lead content. Your local hi-fi shop should help you in that respect.
When you have de-soldered a few bit and got a feel for that. Then solder them back on and see how they look. Remembering that a good soldered joint always looks shiny.
