hi lister

Assuming it's a Tiger you have it's on the base of the exhaust hidden by the heat shield.

ok lister, no problem and yes on a KT I put in below the round vent on the rear deck.

however don't attach it to the upper hull as it makes it difficult to take upper and lower hull apart later. I build a brige below the vent and put the socket on that.

other point I should have said is I use heatshrink over each of the solder joints on the power switch to further reduce any chance of a short.

Let me ask a question about a charging plug, from a whole different perspective. In the Tamiya Pershing kit, they give you a "Y" adapter that lets you plug two different MF/DMD plugs into a single battery. This is because there is not much room in the hull for a second battery.

I have a different model that is difficult to take apart for battery replacement or charging. What I would like to do is to use this Y adapter to tie the single electronic plug to the battery, and to use the second (unused) plug of the Y adapter as a charging plug. My intent would be to open a hatch and fish this plug out and hook it to a charger.

It seems like this ought to be a workable idea using off-the-shelf components, but maybe I'm missing something. Any thoughts?

Thank you. -Mike

hi Mike

yes it would allow you to charge the battery but your main board would still be on the live circuit which, if there was a problem with your charger, could result in a fried board. Personally I wouldn't recommend this method.
It's as you say awkward to keep taking things apart to charge the battery that why I fit the external charging socket.

Besides, if your going to fish out this Y-plug every time you want to charge the battery why not leave it as is and just disconnect the plug and attach the charger straight to the battery.

cheers

Thank you for the reply, jr. What you are saying makes sense - I was just hoping to use the already-there stuff and avoid having to solder anything. Yes, I'd hate to run the risk of frying something. I guess I'll just leave it as it is, (and maybe run a longer battery cable that I can disconnect, so I can isolate the battery for charging without removing it). -Mike
