A tick is silence...ahhhh, that means I am basically a bigger moron that I first thought? So use the find silence button and use it? Is this what you're telling me sir? LOL

You should see flags along the bottom of the graph to indicate where the silence is. You won't see gaps in the graph unless you zoom it right up, they will be microscopic. I used to have no end of problems with it, and often found that simply recreating the sound files did the trick. It seems to be an anomaly within the process of converting sound files from other formats, sometimes it leaves tiny silence breaks, other times it doesn't.

I am currently building a Panzer III Ausf N, and will drop my Stug Elmod kit into it, together with all the other useful bits and pieces, low ratio boxes, metal sprockets etc. I will then have to create a complete sound set for it, which should be fun. If I could convert the sounds from World of Tanks I would do that, as they have a clattery feel to them. Snag is that they are in a rare format for which there is very little in the way of conversion programs. eg...there is one and I haven't downloaded it yet.

Well, I will continue to try what I can. When you told me about the guys making the Leopard 1 sounds, it gave me hope. Of course, as you stated, it took them a long time. I figure it will take me longer to fully understand this, but once I do, that will be all I need for future sound sets... Again, thank you my friend.
Please keep me updated on the PIII sound set you come up with. Perhaps send me a zip file when it's all done?
Also, have a very happy holiday!

When I get around to the P3 file I will let you know, I thought converting an HL Panzer III to AusfN would be a simple task, until I got hold of research material and realised just how much work was involved...they changed a lot of the tank.

Festive good wishes to you also my friend, and as it's 9 degrees here today I will of course be thinking of you poor souls freezing your socks off over there? :D

Cheers

You know something? I just found something interesting about the sound files that elmod provides on the card. I have all of them saved to my C drive. I opened the Leo1, which is a great sounding file. What I noticed is that in each wav file there is a pattern. For instance fs00 is 465ms long, fs01 is 459ms, then fs02 is 453ms..etc. It seems that they simply get shorter by this much each time for the 41 different files. Comapring this I opened one of the Tiger1 files and found this to be virtually the same setup. These 2 fiels, IMO are the best sounds they offer for any tanks. Comparing these files to others, I found that they are the only ones set up in this manner. I wonder if this is soemthing that I've been missing. I tried to make all my files roughly 300ms long. Just thinking out loud Rob...What do you think?

Ok, I am intrigued...what is the Google Earth image for?

Do you know what? I have never noticed that before. One thing I will do when I get around to the PIII file is to see if I can get any info from the bods on Panzerketten. Thomas is a moderator on there along with a few of the Elmod tecchie staff, so if anyone knows, then they do. I just wish I spoke German! I might also try and contact Jakeand to see what he does.

It never ceases to amaze me that Elmod can produce state of the art kit, but don't then go the whole nine yards and produce perfect sound files. Same for the boards really, why aren't they in a component box. I made my own which keeps everything nice and tidy, and allows me to pull the whole thing from one tank, change the settings, and drop it into another. All at minimal cost.

Rob, I have no idea in the world where that Google image came from. i wouldn't know how to include that in the post if my life depended on it...
Well, if you look close, the files do start at a certain number and gradually decline in ms. Then after maybe 15 sounds or so, they begin high again and gradually begin reducing again. I tried this last night for the KV-1 and it greatly improved the sound proportionally. Now if only I could make them louder.
I hope you can contaqct someone about this. If elmod could make the effort to get benednin quality sounds, everyone would buy it for sure. I said the same thing about the boards not being in a box. I like things neat but I can live with that part of it LOL. I found a Perhsing with home made sounds and this thing is awesome. Check it out. I want to see his sound files.

I should have a word with Matt, he might know what has happened to the pic?

Making sounds louder is a piece of cake in Audacity, though its better done before you slice the file up. Just highlight it, and click on Effects>Amplify. The trick is to get the upper and lower reaches of the graph as close to the margins as possible, but without going over them. If you go over them the upper and lower frequencies will be flattened, eg they will all sound the same, and will sound horribly distorted when played back at high volume. You will see an option 'allow clipping' in the box that comes up, it seems you have to select that or it won't do anything.

That Pershing sounds good, he obviously has the magic touch. Two things I always change are the main gun sound, and the reload clatter. I found that sounds like a shotgun reload are a little less harsh, and sound more like they are coming from inside the turret. From that guys comments it sounds like he may send you the files if you ask. I used to get inundated with requests though, and ended up putting a note on my You Tube videos saying that they weren't publicly available. One of the reasons was that I had copied some sounds from T34 v Tiger, and I was loathe to risk breaching anybody's copyright rules.

Ah, yes I am familiar with amplifying the sounds in Audacity, but they still seem to come across low on elmod compared to the stock sounds. I messed around with some of Audacity's other ffeatures and found that I had no luck. It may have alot to do with what you said about the origins of the files being used and the many conversions needed to make them work for elmod.
As for the sound files, yes he said he would send em a set. I want to check them out and see how long they are and compare them to what I am working with. I still believe we have more that can be done. I spoke to Thomas and he says he is currectly working to redo the sound setup iun the blaster file to make them more proportional and realistic. I also found that they have a new blaser IV out with 2 speaker capability! I know they are striving for the best system, and they are getting closer all the time. I think that customers giving them feedback is a good thing so they can work on any weaker areas.
