Hi,
Thank you for the apology, speaking personally I accept it. Your age means that WW2 is much more remote for you than for many of us. But do remember that many of the people on here have fought for their country, some of us have lost relatives or friends in past conflicts at the whim of politicians and fools and some are yet to do so.
You will find if you stick around here that most of the talk is not about the stuff you are sick of hearing about in school and elsewhere, it is about tanks, their history and technology, deployment and use, building models, improving them, breaking them and so on.
However, it would have been better if your apology had come because you felt you should do it rather than you were told to.

Well I think XF62 has been man enough to say sorry, though I would also fully support anyone who wanted to express an opinion, even if I didn't agree with it. The one thing that was fought for was freedom of speech. As time goes on, history fades, and is often rewritten, and it is usually written by the victors in a conquest. My best advice to XF62 is to pick up a book or two and read them.
Here is an intersting snippet. I play World of Tanks (probably too much, but it's addictive). I chat to the developers every now and again on the chat system. I bet you all didn't know that no one in any online game is allowed to use the number '88' as part of their name? I was puzzled by this as in the context of WOT it only meant the 88mm gun. Apparently the Neo-Nazi's use '88' as it relates to the letter 'H' in the alphabet. 'HH' is short for 'Heil Hitler', and that makes it illegal under the laws of various countries, including Germany. Hence anyone who selects say '88Frank' as there username, will be asked to change it.
Strange but true.

Blimey Rob, thanks for that! I wondered why I could'nt have '88' in online names (year I was born).
On another note, I have always been facinated by WW2, I think because it was the last real war that most nations took part in and it was a genuine struggle for all those invloved. I was gutted that it was not taught in History at my school, and confused by the people who thought I was a 'looser' because I had an interest in history. XF62 has unwittingly raised a point I have noticed (sorry Sax to go a bit off topic, I completely agree with BigPanzer), I feel ashamed of most of my generation and those younger than me, that they know so little and seem so uneducated. I think a lot of people feel WW2 is mearly a fictional situation created for games and films, and that it really is'nt important or relevant anymore. I will always remember and respect those who fought so bravely for so long to protect the freedom of future generations (ie us), and always pay my respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice whenever I can. I will make sure my kids (when I get there

) understand the sacrifices my grandparents and thier generation made and to never forget what they did.
Yes arrogance was the key to Hitler's defeate, I may explain my view here in future.
Thanks,
Dave

Hello Guy's, First let me say that XF62 did approach his father on his own so he was attempting to understand our point of view. Also Dave no need to apologize as the very thing I intended has happened discussion.
I've been posting these articles on their anniversary date. But I have had very few responses? I was not sure why as these events were so critical to the outcome of the war. Perhaps the problem has been the section I'm posting in? Dave raises another valid point his generation know little of the conflict, I believe this to be deliberate.
You cannot expect this generation to understand how Beneficial Socialism is if they are educated in the History of WWII.By changing the history, and skipping entire era's the current Socialist in this country can paint a better picture, one word(SICK)
The best way to counter this influence is to teach family History at home, this seems to interest my children and they learn facts not fiction. And we home school.
I will continue to post these articles as their anniversary date are reached, But I need the older members to help by encouraging discussion. I will be 48 in two days, But my father was born in 1928, and his father, and uncles fought in the war and my interest comes from the two uncles who were alive most of my life. My great uncle Doug talked to me often of his experiences.
My father died in a car wreck in 1995,my kids were 3yrs old so they did not get to learn from him. So my point that we must educate the younger generation on the events, not the politics is an obligation we have They are smart and will see the evil and the good on their own once the history is laid out before them.
