Hi Rik,

send a pm to Septon. He has modded the Tammy recoil unit by removing a couple of gear teeth, added a spring, and hey presto you get rapid recoil and slow return of barrel to normal position.

As to the recoil on HL...
The mod to alter the standard HL recoil unit to a propper recoil motion is very simple but you get a limited movement.

The small unit mentioned above looks ok, but at $25 it is a bit steep.

This weekend at Muckleborough, we sat and played with a servo and a little "servo slow" unit made by Turnigey. With this unit, you can alter the speed of a servo to get recoil and return just as you wish for different tanks, and you can alter the servo arm length to get different barrel recoil lengths.
This seemed the way to go for many of us who played with the kit and it's great for about a fiver.

So for Tamiya go for Septon's mod. and for HL watch this space cos we are going to try and sort a template for the Turnigey module with a servo.

I hope this gives you a bit more food for thought.

The mod you speak of I did on my Tiger a while ago, it works well. I'm currently working it onto my Sherman, i'm trying to work out how many teeth to remove, the Pershing recoil unit is quite a bit smaller.

I'm sadly a bit of a Tamiya snob, lol, as such I don't own any HL tanks. Not that I have anything against them, I just prefer Tamiya.

I use the Turnigy modules to simulate intertia on my Tanks, and that was the reason I wanted to use a servo for recoil. It would seem great minds think alike! They are great modules. I'm still tinkering with the one in my Tiger to get the acceleration/deceleration just right.

I think with the Tamiya system, the only option is their own unit. This project is a slow burner though, I have a Sherman to finish and detail, and then i've got my favourite to build after that!
