Hi Rik,
send a pm to Septon. He has modded the Tammy recoil unit by removing a couple of gear teeth, added a spring, and hey presto you get rapid recoil and slow return of barrel to normal position.
As to the recoil on HL...
The mod to alter the standard HL recoil unit to a propper recoil motion is very simple but you get a limited movement.
The small unit mentioned above looks ok, but at $25 it is a bit steep.
This weekend at Muckleborough, we sat and played with a servo and a little "servo slow" unit made by Turnigey. With this unit, you can alter the speed of a servo to get recoil and return just as you wish for different tanks, and you can alter the servo arm length to get different barrel recoil lengths.
This seemed the way to go for many of us who played with the kit and it's great for about a fiver.
So for Tamiya go for Septon's mod. and for HL watch this space cos we are going to try and sort a template for the Turnigey module with a servo.
