I figured it out. The Darkith unit uses the Darkith board to fire the IR LED. After a bit of work with the multimeter I found that the HL IR pins at the top of the board fire on the K button. All I had to do was attach the muzzle flash led to these and 'hey presto', one working muzzle flash!
