Or you could have a look on Amazon for ultra bright 3 or 5mm leds

Good Morning!
"but even worse I'm thinking this bulb might create enough heat to melt the plastic searchlight" !!!Ahhhh! The Tank's On Fire!!! *A Miniature Version of the Chieftain comes scrambling out of the Drivers hatch, Campaign Hardee Hat smoking!* *chuckles* I'm following this Thread and am interested in your Solution since an M48 or M60 is in the Build Future and the Big Spot mounted on the Turret\Mantlet is a Must for me!
regards,
Painless

I have some warm white and bright white 5 mm 6-12v leds I also have them in 3mm which i use in 1/10 crawler spotlights
I could send you a couple if you want ?
Sure I'd try them, how much are they? And can you explain how i wire them up?

The leds i have are 6-12 v working but they will work from 4.5 volts upward (just not as bright)
Whats the voltage of the tank battery ?
how you wire it might depend on
Is there a port on the mfu you can plug it into so you can work it from the transmitter?
or will you splice it into an existing light ?
On the heng long mfu theres a port for rear lights (led port 3) which i used for my german tank convoy lights and can be switched on/off from the tx
