Having worked across the road from where they poured out the slag from the steel tundishes. Make sure the mould is dry before pouring. Water and molten metals make for a rather exciting combination.....

Hi I am preparing to get into aluminium casting. This is mainly for tracks, road wheels, sprockets etc for a 1/6 Chieftain (absolutely love the things) I am planning to make the patterns by 3d printing. Anyone else doing anything similar? Thanks
If you want some tips on how to operate a backyard foundry, look up Jerry Carducci who is well know in the community. He has years of experience when to comes to casting various metals for AFV models, mostly 1/10 & 1/16 but he's now deep into 1/6 scale builds - has 19 Armortek models at last count! 8O

He doesn't much anymore on his website http://tanks.linite.com but can be always be found on Facebook & RC Universe as well here on some occasions.
