Thanks Alan. Here is some progress:
Removing some of the pieces left the body with some holes that needed to be filled in various places. I primered the body parts and sanded it back to remove any blemishes then used white putty filler.
With that set I applied more primer.

Then I considered whether to add a set of rivets on the passenger’s side as seen on the Takom jeep but after consulting a few actual jeeps and the movie vehicle, they didn't seem to have them. I am guessing that it may have been a Willys/Ford difference thing.

Then I added several top colour coats in a mix of Tamiya’s Dark Yellow, Buff and White.

After some masking of the dash placards, that was also applied the dash, wheels and a myriad of other parts.

Naturally, the tyres had to be removed, which revealed these internal packers. It might be interesting to see how they run without the packers so as to soften the tyres.

Looking again at references from the movie, I decided to also paint the chassis the same body colour
