HDP I'm surprised that you say you will always get silvering with waterslide decals. The trick of using gloss varnish on the spot where the decal is placed and then using gloss over it and then matte varnish works every time for me and I have no silvering on any of my decals since i went to that method. That being said although I do have tanks that use Peddinghaus decals I would avoid them if possible as they are too thick and have to be cut to shape and are awkward to apply. These I find are the best Panther decals and you get enough to do 9 tanks so plenty of choice and the CDR that comes with them is excellent except it makes me want to buy more tanks :D

I also use the gloss varnish when using waterslide decals and it works for me
I came accross some henglong tiger 3181 decals in my wee stash and may use them with either the 1 or the 3 cut off
will have a think about that tonight and see what happens

Thank you for the link, Panzermechaniker.

I did actually not write that with decals one "will always get silvering with waterslide decals." Nonetheless, you are certainly correct that by writing that waterslide "decals...will 'silver' despite all our tricks and efforts so to avoid," I did imply "always." I should have constructed the sentence with a bit more care.

I have most often avoided the "silvering" effect by exactly the means you and Alan White indicate: gloss, gloss, then matte. And I use a decal setter whenever the decals are anything but extra thin. But once in a while--not often--I have seen a new decal become silvery around the edges despite tight trimming and clear coats before and after.

As for "Elite Armor" decals to which you linked. Will I try them? As they says in Minnesota "Ja, you betcha!" :D

Ah yes Herr Doc the edges I know exactly what you are talking about and the Peddinghaus are the absolute worst for that. This image is using the decals from that Elite Armor sheet. no way in hell would I have ever tried a number like that with a clear section over a dark colour from Peddinghaus or Tamiya etc. I don't think you could ask any more from a decal manufacturer and those ones didn't do the horrible fold on long thin numbers you sometimes get no matter how well you know how to MicroSet/Sol and again with Peddinghaus being the worst offender. Peddinghaus is great for getting decals of a variety that nobody else makes but I find them a challenge to lay down almost every time
