These tanks are pretty basic. My guess is there are six screws (Phillips) that hold the upper to the lower. Once loose the top has enough wire to lay next to the lower. Inside you/he will find a box like this:
Disregard the wires/connector in the photo, it was just a sample I found.
From the factory all connections should be plugged in, My guess is there will be one connector not connected or really loose. The tank can be tested by simply setting the top on or at least make sure it doesn't drive off the table/bench. But yes it should be a plug it back in kind of repair.

Thank you for the link. I had no idea there was a RC Canadian tank club forum. I will check it out.

Thanks for the picture Ecam. My son is excited to take apart his tank tomorrow! I am hoping it is as simple as a loose connector!

There are very few clubs unfortunately worldwide. We are very fortunate to have a hardcore of about 15 members and an amazing permanent field. Field is located in St. Jacob's

Let us know how it goes. Some one will be along to help if Panzer Mech or I aren't online tomorrow.

Hi Toby, Welcome to the Forum
We will together fix the Tank and that is a promise,
Hopefully we will have impressed you so much that you become fully entrapped into what can only be described as a Bank Managers worst nightmare
I know you will enjoy rc Tanks and take it from me there is nothing that an owner of an RC Tank cannot fix him/herself

Did not see a switch under turret.
Not under the turret, under one of the hatches on top of the turret.
Hello and welcome to the forum Toby
First off, don't be too hasty in itching to take it apart. We firstly need to know if it is driver error before you risk invalidating your warranty. I do believe even in Canada. It wont matter how you damaged the box opening it if the item is sold not fit for purpose.
I say this just in case the MFU is faulty.
If there isn't a switch under the turret hatch. Try this method.

Another couple of things that would help us help you.
You told us what it doesn't do. But not what it does do, in other words, does everything else work as it should, especially after trying to fire the gun? Also the tank should be capable of simulating cannon shot without the bb mechanism switched on, via another transmitter command method, it all depends on the age and electronics edition as to which method you need.
Which brings me on to what did the website say about the item you purchased? Screenshots would be handy. Or better, a link. Failing that, posting a picture of your transmitter may help us help you.

Welcome from Eastern Ontario!
As suggested above, is everything else working properly? If so, I'd hold off popping the lid, and double-check the manual that you've got everything charged up and switched on as required. RCPro has a long-list of some pretty good hobby shop retailers so I'd check with RCPro to see what they want you to do if it is non-functioning ie. Return to them, visit a retailer for exchange or repair, etc.
If it's been opened up they may say, sorry not our problem anymore. Frustrating to wait, but see they want you to do. No probs if it's just a loose connection, but not so great if it's a bad board or broken shooting mechanism, and they won't cover it because it's been opened up.
The RC shops I've visited are not very tank informed, but there may be a weirdo at one of them that RCPro knows about in the GTA. Let us know how it goes, especially after you buy a T34 to go against your son in the backyard!
Mike.

Hello, Toby2024. I agree with Herman Bix and others who recommend not being too fast to start disassembling the tank. The absolute first move is simplest: make sure the firing switch is in the on position. In an earlier version, there is a switch under one of the two hatches. Later the radio transmitter controlled the on/off function just as the video shows. Please do keep us informed as to how things go.
