Yes, there's lots of choices now, plus the whole 3D printed tank world, plus grafting a 1/16 scale model kit onto a 1/16 RC chassis.
Taigens with the V3 board can also be used with a hobbygrade transmitter like yours.

As Jarndice mentions above , the HL's with version 6.0 and up boards are really nice with proportional speed control for movement and turret rotation, servo recoil and elevation on the 6.1S and 7.1 boards, plus lights, sound choices, volume control, chassis recoil, etc. all accessed from the transmitter. No more flipping the tank over and adjusting the volume control with your thumbnail!

Greetings, jfulls94 I long favored Taigen/Torro tanks, especially after the specific sound modules became available. And Taigen/Torro tanks still have some advantages. But Taigen/Torro seems to me to be sleeping on the job, and for RC control, and for Tiger or Modern Main Battle Tank sound, HengLong has pulled way ahead. Then, too, Andrew Haya's and some of the TongDe RC tanks have a lot to offer for the money. I suggest starting with a HengLong, Haya, TongDe, or Taigen/Torro tank (ask here on RCTW about specific models, as they vary some in accuracy and other qualities). These will provide a transmitter. Then when you have some RC Tank experience you may well want to move on to an aftermarket multi function unit to bind to your transmitter and give you even more possibilities for control and action.

Yeah HL tanks are a very strong competitor, my question is for them can i get a metal deck and upgrade the suspension for them or would i be better going for a different brand that has more of a full package? I also wouldn't turn down kits as id most likely repaint a tank i got anyway! Also thanks for the replies much appreciated

You gain a quick release and a rigid metal hull that gives you the strength with the combination of a good Tank after that it is up to you how good bad or indifferent your build is.
