A few years back I pointed out to my youngest a favorite picture in one of my Sherman books (squadron/signal - Armor No. 16). A few months later at Christmas she gave me this.

Image

It is printed on canvas and stretched on a wood frame (31x24 inches). One of my favorite wall hangers.

Been mucking around with the look of this biggy.
The paint was very new, not weathered at all so it needed to be adjusted to suit the season and the mood of the battle in the hour before 105 was hit and reversed into the house that meant it’s downfall.

Rather than use a traditional wash I went with the Magic Grime option.
I like the outcome so far.
Road wheels still to do.

Herman, Magic Grime is my favorite cheat. I just love the stuff. Magic grime is, however, easier to use if one puts it on the tank and the tools and accessories separately and then installs the tools, etc. But go ahead, make it harder for yourself to get the kind of great results I see in your photos above.

It is very good stuff. Now Im out of the Tri colour pot so a reorder is required :problem:
This model needed a look to reflect the period theme of terrible weather, a desperate plan, and a fragile margin of error.

The idea of removing any accessories was a moot point as they were fixed in place. Plus the grime seems to suit areas that build up over time & the look seems to fit the theme I was after once I got this KT in its "Wacht am Rhein " livery.
I got the grime into the roadwheels & it blended the whole thing in.

Yeah the Magic grime stuff really is Magic. It's great even for light weathering, fun to use and endlessly adjustable.

Pffft, Light weathering? Who am I kidding? :haha: :haha: :haha:

Lookin good Mr. Bix! You've got a knack with the Kings

Bix, here is a detail question: what color, unh, coloUr, is the fire extinguisher supposed to be? I have seen various, and I have done various, wondering each time if I have made a mistake.

There are several options from grey, to yellow, to overpainted in the tanks cam colour........
I assume that a tank crew would have simply bombed over the entire accessory set if painting cam in field.
To hard, too little time, not the focus with time in hand, and when you think about it, how the hell can a fire extinguisher colour make a difference to a tanks silhouette !!??
At 10.5 meters long including the barrel, a King Tiger from above is hard to miss !
The humble fire extinguisher on the deck is hardly going to be a point of aim reference :haha:

Tetra did have specific colours for their products fitted to their nations AFVs back then, but once they were delivered to the factories & received in-field by the units, all bets are off I reckon.

I have seen Dunkelgrau, Dunkelgelb, and, yes, camouflage overspray, which I have done on the same reasonable assumption you make: that the crew wouldn't even remove all the tools, etc. The most unusual I have done is the reddish primer color.
