The Tamiya speaker is marked 4 Ohms and 5 watts - exactly the same spec. as the two inexpensive speakers advertised on eBay.

I will be home later tonight and I will use your method of testing - but please explain - is the HP you refer to the speaker?

The speaker that stopped working has no obvious signs of any damage. If it passes your tests, then my original suspicion that the thin yellow and white cables have fractured when they were so badly twisted can be the only other possible problem as the replacement speaker taken from my unmade kit worked immediately when it was plugged-in.

My plan to change the two (yellow and white) speaker connecting wires to the "non-working" speaker may be all that is needed to get it working again (?) but at only £3.63 each I will order a pair of the inexpensive speakers in any case as they could come in very handy as spare parts one day .

If the original Tamiya speaker (HP?) is not dead (HS?), I will use it in my "new build" Tamiya Leopard 2A6 (OK).

Ha - I guessed correctly

I plugged a couple of wires into a 3.7 volt LiPo and touched them briefly on and off of the speaker terminals - and as you suspected the speaker crackled every time I touched the wires onto the terminal.

It it looking like there is an internal fracture inside the yellow/white speaker wires, so I will chop them off of the plug and replace them with two similar size wires to see if this was the problem .

great, confirms what I thought, if HP crackles, it's because the conductive wires are cut

I fitted a new pair of wires and the speaker now works perfectly, so it will be reinstalled.....or fitted into my new build Tamiya 2A6.
I had to join the new wires to the old ones just a short distance away from the brown plug as I couldn’t find a source of replacement plugs of this type.
A new plug would have been preferred, but fortunately the original wires were not twisted together at this point and so were not fractured.
As a matter of interest.......does anyone know what these brown plugs are known as and where I can buy a couple of new ones ?

Hi, Zooma! I get these kinds of connectors (and others) either from a local RC car or drone shop or ("local" being in my case not so nearby) right off of Amazon. Go to Amazon UK (I use US for the colonies) and search "jst connector kit" or just "jst connector."

Here is an image with names of some of the types of connectors. As you can see JST actually indicates connectors of a few types. Nothing about electronics is clear entirely clear .

They are Molex "Micro-Latch" connectors as far as I know.
