I did test it with tracks and upper hull off. It's weird that both motors do the same thing the second you flip the on-off switch. Plus the turret drive doesn't work either. Makes me think it's a problem with the MC-04.
Thanks for the suggestion about old lubricant, though. I'll see if I can pull out the motors and clean them.

The factory motors use a brush lubricant which dries out due to heat and heavy use then after sitting a while clogs up the brushes and redners the motor inoperative. Iis not that hard to refurbish them back to new condition. I may do a thread on this process as sooner or later in needs done. The small mabushi motors have two tabs that with the proper tool is bent up to release the brush housing. These can be a bit delicate until you get the hang of removing them without damage. The may be black with sludge as will be the 3 amature contacts. A simple wipe down with a piece of toilet paper usually will do the trick. cleaning the brushes if necessary then reassembling the motor with brush housing with the correct timing.
I will add more if requested as I get time.

Have you found a solution yet?
I did not except to replace the MC-04 unit which Tamiya tells me will be in stock sometime in December.

Tanker Mike and WimMahieu: I am not familiar with the 1/35 tank nor the unfortunate problem you describe, but I can attest that modler is an expert with "small" scale RC tanks. I wish you a quick, successful repair.
