Interesting point, the Germans did use the numbering of submarines to create the belief that they had more than they actually had.Why not tanks, aircraft, and anything else.Good piont Pete, cheers Blake

I recall reading that atleast one unit (12th SS Panzer?) deliberately painted their tanks with high turret numbers, because the Russians had learned that the command tanks normally had the lowest numbers and so went for them first.

The more I see the more confused!

Woz's  images show 812 with only two "Tiki's", and solid white numbers whereas Pete's images show "833" with three images and out lined numbers?

Is it possible that the Das Reich's 8th company had two Tiger's with Tiki as painted on it?

Also none of these tanks seem to have the DR's divisonal crest/id (wolfsangel?) on them?

                                                      Jim (a really confused newbie!).

Tanks were often moved around in a company so Tiki 833 (3rd tank, 3rd Platoon 8th Reg) would have become Tiki 812 (2nd tank, 1st Platoon 8th reg)
