Here's a quick diagram to explain. This is the right-hand joystick, with its four main positions.
Top picture shows what each gearbox should do when you push the stick to those positions. Bottom picture shows what your boxes are doing when you push the stick to those positions. Note only the left box is different, as in wired the wrong way around. Gearboxes only go forward or reverse.

Large L is for the left gearbox, and large R is for the right gearbox. Smaller F for forward and small R for reverse, which are showing the direction the gearboxes will drive.

Hi just to clarify
Do I only change one motor polarity on one motor only and nothing else and is that the left motor looking from the front or looking from the back

Only touch one motor, the one that is wrong.
You said the tank drives left instead of forward and drives forward when it should go left. Therefore you alter the polarity on the motor that is on the same left you are referring too.

Diagram to show what left I mean

No worries lol
Sometimes explanations don't always translate when the person giving them is not sure if they're giving a clear enough explanation to what seems obvious to them.

Son of a gun-ner wrote:Both wires are live and neutral depending on which direction you're driving your tank. It makes no difference to the motor, which wire feeds its insatiable appetite for power. The only thing that makes any difference to a motors direction, is that motors run better one way or the other.
This is true sometimes on brushed motors. The term "timing" is used for motors that describes their characteristics. You can have forward timing (works better forward), reverse timing (work better in reverse), or neutral timing (same forward and reverse). The motors used in our tanks SHOULD be neutrally timed, but there are also manufacturing tolerances where two motors produced on the same manufacturing line may run at slightly different RPMs even if they are timed the same. Plus once you add the motor to a gearbox, you can add to the difference in the motors by adding gearbox losses. Adding on the sprockets and track friction can also cause add to the difference.

Just opened tank, oh how embarrassing, I had reversed the polarity..
Just heating up the iron whilst I ring the GP for a colour blindness checkup
