In your conversion only steering wheel is used for turning?

Yes. I will put a small O ring in the center of the front wheel for better traction.

what did you use for motors and controller?

I wanted to keep the cost really low. I had Tamiya 70188 Mini Motor Gearbox (8-Speed) Kit https://www.pololu.com/product/1682 https://www.pololu.com/product/1682 at home. It is not ideal, but it does the job.

A cheap china made ESC.
Brushed 20A ESC,Brushed ESC Electronic Speed Controller with Brake for RC Car/Boat

Has anyone else found excessive amounts of flash on the back of their road wheels?

Yes the quality is below expectations.

I think later in the year we should all have a guess at how far this is going go before it disintegrates spectacularly...

I have already broke three one. Drilling small holes than used 0,5mm steel wire. Soma CA and now it works.
