Wibbly, not going to get in to an argument or phylsophical discussion over our right to bear arms. It is guaranteed by our Constitution. As long as you have an armed citizenry, the Govt can only go so far as to pushing you around. Our Govt  fears us, as they rightly should. They work for us, although many forget that from time to time. Their job is not to control us, but to help us and make life as easy as possible for us.

When Hillary Klinton was president some years ago. she went so far as to have a plan in developement to pick up all weapons belonging to civilians, and it got so far as a questionaire was sent out to selected military units, basically asking the troops, individually,  that if they were so ordered, would they go in to civilian homes and if necessary use force to take the firearms. I was training troops at Ft A P Hill when it hit one of the Marine units (think it was Kilo 1/3, but might be wrong on the company) we were aggressing, and during a stand down I was shown the document. Somehow copies were sent to various Republican Congressmen and Rush Limbaugh (I had nothing to do with that), and it suddenly ended. And now the charmer is SecState. That's scary.

As far as confiscating the weapons, I am not there at this time. If the Govt was to come in and demand them while I was in country, of course I would give them up. However if it came to that, the Govt taking all our weapons, I'm afraid that some young lad in uniform, either blue or green, would loose his one night not long after. Any Govt that wants to disarm their citizens is up to no good. Read your history. When Germany took the weapons away from the citizens, Hitler made the statement in a speech shortly thereafter that "now our police can go about their work safely". Uh huh. And look what they did then. Interestingly, Klinton made the same statement, verbatum, after the "assualt weapon ban" took affect. Scary, huh?

Our culture and physical country is very different from Merry Olde, so please don't compare us to your culture. Not meant to be insulting, as both cultures have there advantages.

@ Woz.....I was indeed Woz. I was indeed....  . I have read my post several times, and I can't see that I am comparing the UK culture to anyone's, I am simply stating what our culture is, for the benefit of those who might not be aware that we are all totally unarmed. Not so much as a catapault to be found here.

@ Steiner ( Apologies Wibbly, for going off on a tangent on your thread. )....no worries. The more the merrier...hic! Though I am assured by a helicopter pilot at the MOD that there are sufficient helicopters. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and asked him.

@ Saxondog...I have no idea what the bad rules and regulations are? Well, apart from banning smoking...which is pretty much ignored in the rest of Europe.

Interestingly, everyone assumes that Switzerland was a neutral country that was respected by all sides during the war. The reality is that Hitler knew that he could not invade it. It was all mountains, and every Swiss citizen is trained in the use of firearms. Hitler knew that if he went in, he would have had the WW2 equivalent of Afghanistan on his hands, so he shelved the idea. They simply used it to store their ill-gotten gains instead.

Let me jump in at this point,I regret asking the question and removed my last post that was probably not up long enough for many to read it.The gun issue in America is a very sensitive issue and does not belong here,I apologize for the mess my question seems to of raised.Let's talk about Tanks,WW-II,and the things that make us a better forum.Blake

OK, Tanques!!
Tomorrow VCO and I leave for Odessa for the tank meet there. Have no idea how it will turn out, as last years "first annual Odessa Tanke Meat...er... Meet", had about 10 participants. We are packed and ready to head on on what I am sure will be some interesting roads thru the hinterland. We are taking 4 tanks for demo (no combat last year, as no one there was TBU equiped), all battle ready, plus a hack to demo and allow hands on use with the Turnigy installed. Should be interesting. Tamiya Kiev will not be there. We will take lots of photos etc and post same. Hope the weather holds, but rain is promised, at the moment for Sunday.
Wibbly, the arty piece in your original post looks interesting. However, I can see shortcomings in it from the vid, not the least of which is mobility. Interesting concept though. Looks like a concept weapon with unusual features. However, some developers forget the KISS principle, Keep It Simple, Stupid, so to speak.
Somewhere I got a photo of the "new Ukrainian Tank of modern design" shown at the Independence Day Parades and Debaucheries in Kiev couple weeks ago. Another rebuilt T72 or such, nothing outstanding though.
Now, here's a photo of an interesting little item. Tell me what it is. Photo given to me by a friend here.  Tracking unit was up and down in less time than it takes you to read this sentence.

I think the new wave of weapons is allready doing their job from the sounds of things----If your the bad guy----you are setting in your house--or--in your favorite cave--or behind a rock--------Having a cup of tea and chewing on a nice piece of goat meat----AND    BoooooooM-----your ass is gone---

Thanks to the unmaned flying aircraft that has been watching you for a while and then fires that missle
that puts you into where ever it is pieces of dead bad guys go----

Well said, Mig. Some of todays weapon systems give new meaning to the old Bell Telephone advert, "reach out and touch someone". Good that we have a way to tag those oxygen thieves long distance.

I believe now, they are wanting to carry the concept of the current  UAVs forward to that of complete Jet Fighter/bomber squadrons. I'm not sure if the jet jockeys will be happy with that concept. They better start getting some practice in behind a VDU. How long I wonder before main battle tanks are unmanned.
