Thank you for the radio tips. I need to do a bit of shopping about: my LHS is a mere 40 miles away and yesterday I could get no internet signal after 11:00 am. I am also heading off for a brief island trip this coming week, so I must be parsimonious. “Island?” you ask. Greece? Sanibel? No, Mackinac Island in Lake Michigan.

At my not-so-local hobby store, I picked up a LiPo charger (I already have a safety bag) and two 2S 300 mAH batteries. There was, however, not a sufficient selection of transmitters with receivers small enough for the 4X4 quarter ton truck and using sticks (not "steering wheel"). Here is one I am considering through Amazon, but I am open to recommendations.

The flysky transmitter above is perfect, but the fsia6b does not fit. They do however have an older receiver fsia6 receiver which does work as it has like a paper only casing and is thin enough to fit in behind the front servo.
I will email you some photos across this weekend.

Thanks, Will: "but the fsia6b does not fit." That's exactly what my hesitation was about. I could try the DumboRC if nothing else, but I would still want a more versatile, stick-type transmitter. I see some indicated as fsia6 (as well as fsia6B) on the ebay monster. If I go with the FlySky transmitter, will watch with care to compare pictures (and compatibility) of the receiver

Quick update: A Flysky FS-i6X 6-10(Default 6)CH 2.4GHz AFHDS RC Transmitter w/ FS-iA6B Receiver is coming soon (maybe even today). I ordered two FSia6-not 6B--off eBay. (Meanwhile, as a first step toward making a workable M10, I had to change out a bent axle--no kidding--on my Mato M10. Yeesh, Mato tanks see to be heavy but shoddy. )

It's time for comic relief. I set out today to bind one of the FSiA6 receivers, following the instructions for the FlySky FS-i6X 6-10 transmitter. I had to print out the instructions from the FlySky web site because they were not included in the box with the transmitter.

I had three connectors from the battery to attach to the receiver. That's 33% odds of success, hardly idiot-proof.
Given one 3-prong plug that fit the three prongs of the B/VCC connector, I chose the 3-prong plug that fit. You guessed it:
(I removed the plastic cover from the receiver after the fireworks display.) I do have another FSiA6 receiver (I bought two; should have bought three or four). So how do I try binding the second receiver, avoiding the POP! the nasty smell, and laughter amid the tears?

Plugging a battery straight into a receiver is not a good idea as you found out professor I use an esc ( electronic speed controller ) which the battery and receiver plugs into separately to bind all of my receivers

I checked and checked again. I was following the directions in the FlySky manual. I did not know that the ESC could be in place between the battery and the receiver during the binding process. If I understand correctly, plugging the battery into the ESC and then to the receiver is the final set up, but it must be a wiser choice even for initial binding of the transmitter and receiver.

It is possible to plug a battery directly into a receiver professor but usually only a 4.8 or 6v battery, a 7.4 2s lipo will have the effect on your receiver as you've already found out. You can use one of the cheap 20/30amp Chinese esc to bind the receiver, just set it up as if you were installing it into your model ie the esc throttle cable ( labelled as D on your photo at the top of this thread ) goes into the receiver throttle channel and then the esc battery plug ( labelled as A above) connects to your 2s lipo battery plug, the receiver and battery do not come into direct contact with each other as they are both plugged into the esc separately where they can be regulated.
I'm not sure on the binding procedure for your receiver but normally for the bind sequence you place a bind plug into the appropriate pins on the receiver ( usually marked ) then when the radio and receiver are bound you remove the bind plug and use as normal, hope this may be of some help to you
