M3 Lee from an M4 Sherman
Re: M3 Lee from an M4 Sherman
If you like M3's you definitely want to watch the Bogart movie "Sahara". He does sit tall!

Looks like some clever model engineering paid off. Post a video when you get a chance.

Here's a video clip. This was taken before I'd completely ironed out the turret rotation issue - it works, but you'll see some creative editing!

Wow! That really drives well and I think it’s a great looking model. Looks like a fun tank playground to run around on. Thanks for posting the video.

Looks great even if Vandra's turret is little too small

Wow, SoCal! You show the kind of clever resourcefulness that characterizes champion modelers. What a fine accomplishment--creating a tank I just can't help but like, for it reminds me of the line "A cranky old Yank in a clanky old tank." My hat's off to you for top notch work!

Thanks for all the compliments, guys! My swelled head keeps bumping the ceiling.
Kaczor, I'd read a thread where someone made a completely new turret to remedy that deficiency. Beyond my skills, or patience.
Jimster; that field is where we conduct IR tank battles every month or so in the Mission Bay area of San Diego, California. Actually pretty sparse, but the sand and sun make for good photos and video.
My project goal was to do this using as much original parts as possible, so: a static Heng Long Sherman, a spare 6.0 MFU, the Vandra kit and a 3D turret gear made by a buddy.
I love these unique designs, before it was realized what the successful configuration would be - one main gun in the turret, hull as low as practical, minimal secondary weapons. If only there was a 1:16 scale r/c Russian T-35 five turreted tank....

If you have access to a 3D printer, there is:SoCalBobS wrote:I love these unique designs, before it was realized what the successful configuration would be - one main gun in the turret, hull as low as practical, minimal secondary weapons.
