It would be a proverbial walk through the park for a modeler of your caliber. A finely detailed mg like that deserves some animation if at all possible.

Gentlemen,
It just struck me that you are all thinking automatic MG movement ( servos ). I meant that when I built mine, I used small nuts and bolts and drilled the components so that the MG can be manually raised, lowered and swiveled on the base. As usual, you guys are a half a league ahead of me ;o)
regards and following along to see what is possible,
Painless

It will require two tiny servos, one to spin the mounting spindle and a rod from the other to raise and lower the gun. The elevation servo would need to turn with the gun, mounted out of sight within the tight confines of the turret. It this it too large to accommodate then maybe a simple cam could raise and lower the barrel as the gun rotates.
Alternatively l could do what my great uncle did and build a micro robot that could simply command the tank and operate the mg manually. This might be simpler!

Would that be considering “micro management”?

Did you look at Diorama Freak on eBay? I got some Russian MGs from there at a better price. A bit rough, but at least they are a starting point.

I did find a Lego compatible one for the JS2 for very little cost!
Just to complicate things, the IR Apple uses the hatch too so, as it stands, mounting servos under the hatch will be a challenge. However, the answer is probably to relocate the IR socket. Are Taigen and Henglong IR receiver apples compatible? They are just a receiver 'bulb' aren't they? I'll try it, or of course l could remount the Taigen bulb in an alternate apple. There's plenty of 'sticky up bits' now that could be used! Don't hold your breath - l'm planning a day out today
