It appears to be a Panzerfaust 60 so you're most likely right, its rated penetration would have struggled with a KT upper glacis

Would have been great to see what damage it did to the interior, but being abandoned it was probably already burnt out.
Ooops... :/ I'd only just been studying pics of the Panther 2 project, which bears a strong resemblance to the King Tiger- including that distinctive bell-shaped mantlet. Also, the late Panther G has a similar front glacis arrangement to the King Tiger, at first sight- but an entirely different mantlet. If I'd looked with greater care (instead of going to the back of the Tank Recognition Class... :{ :haha: ), I'd have clocked it right away. Silly moi.
Here's the 'Panther 2' (model prototype) I'd been admiring, for comparison. It would have made an excellent tank! Had the war continued into 1946, the Panther would have encountered the Centurion (Prototypes were shipped to Germany a month after the war ended.) with the 17-Pounder. That would have been a fair old ding dong. Later versions of Centurion, with the 20-Pounder would probably have seen the Panther 2 off with ease.

By the way, it looks to me as if the Faust had punched its way right through the glacis. I've read It was capable of penetrating 200mm of armour.

A rather inventive use of the Jeep to make ice cream.

:D Indeed, Gary. Given the brass-monkey weather, however, the wheel might have been put to better use turning a spit with a turkey on it! :)
That tell-tale cloud of smoke, from the Panzerfaust 60, would have meant the operator beating a very hasty retreat. Although the weapon could penetrate up to an amazing 200mm of armour with its shaped charge, it had a very short range (60m). This meant being suicidally close, or having handy Bocage for concealment. Another disadvantage was that it would blow a sizable hole in anyone behind the operator. In contrast, the British PIAT, (Projector, Infantry, Anti-tank) had a considerably greater range and could be fired from confined spaces without producing the give-away smoke, nor punching holes in nearby team members. But I'll let Ian McCollum describe its pros and cons. :D

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but sure would like seeing additional pictures of that Panther II if available.

Righty Ho... We aim to please :D :
Again, this must be someone's impression of the Panther 2. It looks pretty decent to me, and it's in a well-staged photo. It's not that Panther 2, however.
No bazookas in sight...
