HL/Taigen Panzer 4 with ELMOD
Re: HL/Taigen Panzer 4 with ELMOD
So I was digging through my parts bin and I found my winter tracks for the panzer 4. So I’m going to do a different build lol.

Re: HL/Taigen Panzer 4 with ELMOD
I have never cared for the Heng Long/Taigen front fenders and as WOZ C/O Shapeways makes/sells replacement Front and Rear hinged fenders in both the early and late patterns that's what I use,
Dolls house sites sell the exactly correct hinges and www.prime-miniatures.co.uk sell the M3 Nuts,Bolts and Washers as well as nutspinners should you need them.
The front fenders are a doddle to change but the rears are more challenging needing the PZ4s rear panel removing. (One Piece Glued on)
If you are going for a Aus F2/Aus G or Aus H the front Glacis in front of the driver/ radio operator was reinforced and WOZ makes/sells a very nice part that with very little extra work looks good (M4 Bolts instead of the faux moulded on ones)
The Aus F2/G and the early H only had the Schurtzen armour around the Turret and the Aus H and J moved the radio aerial to the rear left flank which makes the accurately detailed radio aerial deflector on the main gun obsolete and the fixed cupola makes converting the twin hatch pre-Aus H cupola into a single hatch Aus H and J much harder.
Unmodified Heng Long and Taigen Panzer 4s have a bit of a Jelly Mould appearance to my thinking but very little work lifts them into being very nice facsimiles and as they served in every area that the German Army fought during WW2 the sky is the limit on camo patterns.

Re: HL/Taigen Panzer 4 with ELMOD
As you probably know the picture is of a late Ausf G model with the twin hatch cupola and the side retractable radio aerial but without the aerial deflector,
The radio operators side viewing slit which can be seen was removed with the introduction of the H and J models along with the similar fitting on the drivers side.
The low light "Notek" unit was also removed,
The single headlight and applique Glasis armour reinforcing the driver and radio operator's positions both of which which can be seen became standard on the Ausf H and J as did the relocated radio aerial to the left rear flank.
A field modification was the fitting of spare track links upon the front Glasis although it was found out later that such protection was actually not effective and the practice was discouraged,
A lesson obviously not learned by M4 crews in Normandy onwards who continued with any and every means available to add to the Tanks defences
The G models driver viewing slit still had the binocular viewing port above the slit but it was being phased out,
The tanks that continued with the fitting had a cut out in the Glasis armour to allow for it's use,
The drivers binocular sight was removed on the H and J variants and the cut out in the armour was filled in.
