There are some "Dodgy" dealers out there who want your money but have little interest in "Service",
Two official Taigen Dealers that I would recommend unreservedly are Dom in Germany at http://www.rctank.de/
and Dave in the UK at http://www.forgebeartanks.com
Both of these dealers will give you a great deal.
I hope you enjoy this Forum and please do ask all the questions.
Thanks for the advice, researching vendors was one of the things that brought me to the site. Not planning on getting burnt!

Not to mention its pretty awesome!

Tiger's also have the advantage of loads of internal space. Given you'll almost certainly get another another one there's the King Tiger too..... ;) Depending on where you are, you may get asked for pics (if near one of the museums) and there's a meet in Grantham, first Sunday of the month. Children of all ages welcome. There's a link to the Facebook page from Forgebear tanks website: he also attends more often than not so you can look at stuff (to buy) or see what everyone else has done.

I do like the King Tiger too, there's a very nice second hand FOV king tiger in our local hobby store.
Not on Facebook i'm afraid got bored of that many moons ago but I will try and fathom pics when the time comes and the meets sound interesting.

Good choice of first make of tank

You have a son to play with, hmm, looks like you'll have to save your pennies for a second tank then :D
The Taigen T34 can be a rather good runner should you desire an enemy for the Tiger 1 to battle ;)

Enjoy the forum.
Mick.
Thanks Mick,

My son Charlie will be 10 on Christmas eve, he's a big fan of the Sherman so I think that's going to be on the wish list for him. It may have to be a Heng Long though looking at prices of them.

I get a little tee-d off with the people who constantly bad mouth Heng Long Tanks,
This bias is usually either hearsay or from someone who bought a Heng Long Tank ten years ago when without doubt they were childrens toys,
This should not have come as a surprise to anybody as Heng Long is a massive Chinese TOYMAKER,
Two years ago there was an uninvited reshuffle in Heng Longs R/C design department when most of the staff left for pastures new,
Since then the standard of the product has leapt forward in every way,
Taigen still persist in moulding tools and fittings on their Tanks while Heng Long have long ceased that practice and provide such fittings separately,
The latest MFU both the 6.0 and the 6.3 are very good boards and the list goes on while the prices are still the lowest.
I do not ask for favours just look at todays Heng Long Product instead of an item that for all its faults got everyone of us into this hobby all those years ago,
Tamiya was first BUT nobody could afford them and guess what most people still cant :lolno: Taigen and Torro did not exist and all I see is ever increasing prices with little in the way of improved quality.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I like the sound of the IR, beats finding BB's all over the place too, Nerf bullets are bad enough! I do like a project!

That's the kind of info I need thanks! maybe Heng Long is back in the picture, I would rather not drop a ton of cash on one tank because I know it wont end there. I'll probably end up painting it myself regardless so as long as it works as intended it will probably be good enough to get me going.

Like you a new member on this forum... will it be a Tamiya Tiger or Heng Long?
We will learn a lot about RC tanks..ImageImageImage

I think it'll be the Taigen, the Tamiyas are out of budget and I've read some not so great things about the Heng Longs.
Don't want to spend a fortune but also don't want to make a cheap purchase and regret it. What do you think you'll go for?
I propably will go for the Leopard 2a6..because I like modern tanks a lot.
Will be a Taigen or Heng Long with the 6.0 board in it...what ive seen a d read is it a pretty good board to start with.

Cheers

I'm delighted with my new v6.0 Tiger 1's electrics and at under 90 quid deliver next day its great value BUT.. having stripped it down for modifying l found why the smoker doesn't work - one of the heated wires was broken. The speaker leads were almost sheared in half where the shell mounting tubes had pinched it and one of the smoker outlet tubes had been sliced through by the redundant 27kHz antenna mount pinching it (the other one was folded so couldn't work. After resorting the heater lead the unit still failed to smoke. So, very poor assembly standards and clearly not tested.

Their designs have progressed well but the build standards are still questionable. BUT for the price, if you are prepared to rebuild them, still a candidate.

Thanks Mick,

Yeah, the Taigen Sherman's are a bit pricey, I purchased the un painted Taigen Sherman when it first came out at £400 for my grandson when he was 11, it's now £300. And it doesn't come with electronics.
By the time it was finished with an aftermarket board and controller, it worked out our most expensive tank, but it runs very well, and he loves it, and for me, that outweighs everything else.
I have a few of the slightly older dual sound Heng Long Sherman's, and I'm quite happy with how they run.
As for Heng Long quality, I have a few Heng Longs, and find they can be a bit hit and miss, mainly due to their assembly practices. But, some tank versions aren't as good as others due to weaknesses in the running design, mainly with the bigger more heavy tanks on plastic suspension arms.
And yes, some components can be broken or not working when you receive them. But for the money, and that there are so many aftermarket upgrades and spares for them, for the money, I think they are worth a punt.
As for purchasing a Heng Long for a gift, I would in all honesty, purchase it early, then you can try it out and make sure it works properly to avoid disappointment on the unwrapping day.

Always happy to spare the bytes
