New from Drachten ( Netherlands)
Re: New from Drachten ( Netherlands)
JD, for what it’s worth, I just bought the Taigen Leopard 2A6 metal Edition with all the bells and whistles. Great, solid tank for starting point and I’m in the early stages of converting it to a 2A7.

I’ve ordered a conversion kit from DKLM https://www.dklmrc.com/product/leo2a7 .I also have new electronics coming from our very own Stian Sollie. I love the looks and ancestry of the Leopard tank. I agree that both the Dutch and Canadian versions are very awesome.

l couldn't agree more - like you, l get my speed passion sorted building and racing RC race cars. Most tanks spend most of their life moving slowly so smooth realistic movement is what l look for too. Metal upgrades are often counter productive (we still all do them) as the mass can make the transmission have to work hard. Like RC racing where all spur gears are a type of plastic material, the basic RTR HengLong tanks are quiet and smooth. Up until a few weeks ago this was let down by poor electrics where the esc/steering function led to poor slow running and turning BUT with their new v6.0 MFU (box with all the electronics in) all that has changed and their new Tiger 1 is the easiest tank to drive well that l own...l now have 22, all far more expensive! So..JD_Skyline wrote: I know that I want tanks that are as close to the real thing as possible.. that also goes for the way it drives, turns etc... That is my challenge hahah
Multi Function Units appear to be the focus of the various manufacturers and buying the latest versions is a must. On this basis, shop around and maybe take a look at HengLongs range of modern tanks - they do a few - but only if they are v6 equipped. They should be around for not too much over £100 if you keep them plastic.
But its up to you! ?

Thank you for your advise.. aha I wasnt aware that there is some similarity with rc car racing.. hahaha yes the spur gear is plastic, strong and has to be well adjusted to run smooth...in order to be fast...General Jumbo01 wrote:l couldn't agree more - like you, l get my speed passion sorted building and racing RC race cars. Stian is a seller of Clark boards. There are several other tank boards available but I started with Clark and will remain with their products. The boards amaze me. Do a YouTube search on them and other boards. There are some amazing offerings available and it’s what pleases me most about this hobby is the great sounds and electronics available.

If you fit metal tracks you'll need metal idler and drive wheels. These parts can take some load that will transmit to the gears and then is the time to fit a metal gearbox but you'll need a good one as the cheap ones are horrible! With the high quality metal gears come slightly better motors but they are all sealed brushed cans. You could fit metal tracks and use the plastic transmission until it fails.
Best tank? Love them all but l have soft spots for my JS-2, T34,s and King Tigers (Torro / Taigen) and my SU-100 (WIP). All are modified. I'd prefer kits but most only come RTR so all get stripped down once tested out of the box.

Ever thought of using brushless motors? They are very efficient, strong and quiet.... and put them in a gear box..General Jumbo01 wrote:If you fit metal tracks you'll need metal idler and drive wheels. Think when buying a tank its better to buy one with all that metal fitted.
Aha you like WW2 and specially the russian tanks.. can see what you mean. the JS2 is an awseome tank.. a lot of fire power..
Thats what Im going to do too buy one, drive for al while and make it my own....
