The E8 designation indicates the HVSS, not the 76mm gun. The VVSS version supplied to the Soviets would have been designated M4A2 76(w).

I thought E8 was a Sherman A2/3 with the bigger gun and turret that just so happened to have HVSS but my Sherman book agrees with you. Thank you for correcting me yet again Mr Tiger6

Bugger. Why don't they call that Tamiya M4 105 an M4E8

I guess because I'm not bothered about modelling a Sherman with HVSS, I didn't pay enough attention at Sherman school
